Stitching this because more people need to hear it.

Lipoedema is still so misunderstood. For years, women were told it was just weight gain, told to diet more, exercise more, try harder.

But it’s not that simple.

I’ve spent over a decade treating women with lipoedema, listening to their stories, and seeing first-hand how real this condition is and how much it impacts their lives.

The awareness we’re seeing now matters. Conversations like this matter.

Because the more we talk about it, the more women realise they’re not alone and that there are answers.

Keep sharing. Keep raising awareness.

Lipoedema isn’t the same as weight gain and the body shows it in very specific ways.

From ankle cuffs to pre-tibial fat pads, suprapatellar fullness to the “mattress” effect on the skin, these patterns are unique to lipoedema.

Recognising these signs is key to identifying it as a distinct condition, not mislabelling it as obesity.

Weight loss medication can be an important part of preparing for lipoedema surgery.

By reducing overall weight, it helps surgeons clearly see the areas of lipoedema fat that don’t respond to treatment, allowing for more precise and targeted surgery and sometimes fewer procedures.

Rather than a disadvantage, it’s a helpful step in achieving better results and a smoother recovery.

What is awake liposuction and how is it different from traditional liposuction?

Awake liposuction means the procedure is carried out while you remain conscious, rather than under general anaesthesia. We talk through how sedation works, whether it’s taken orally or through an IV, and the different levels involved, from light sedation where you can still respond, to deeper levels that feel closer to sleep.

The key difference comes down to awareness. With awake liposuction, you’re still present and responsive throughout, just in a relaxed, comfortable state.

If you’ve been considering treatment, this is an important distinction to understand.

There’s no “perfect age” for treating Lipoedema, it’s about how it’s impacting your life.

If it’s holding you back from daily activities, time with loved ones, or doing your job, it may be time to consider surgery.

We treat patients from their 20s to their 70s. What matters most is doing it for the right reasons, you.

For years, she thought it was just something she had to live with pain, discomfort, and legs that never seemed to change no matter what she did.

Getting the right diagnosis changed everything.

After treatment, the difference wasn’t just physical, it was how she felt every day. Less pain, more ease, and finally feeling comfortable in her own body again.

Stories like this are why we do what we do.

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always worth looking into.
