This patient attended complaining of loss of hearing in one ear. Initially, all I could see using the otoscope was wax. This was safely removed using microsuction. Sadly this uncovered another cause of the hearing problem, a chronic perforated ear drum (Tympanic Membrane).

The patient was then referred by her GP for further investigation to an Ear Nose and Throat Department, where specialists will decide what the best course of action is.

Thankfully, most but not all perforations heal themselves, but some require specialist intervention.

Just a little note to say that the current waiting time for an appointment for ear wax removal is only 8 days! That's plenty time to use Earol to soften the wax prior to your appointment.
