FALL PREVENTION
Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in preventing falls, especially among older adults or individuals at risk due to conditions like arthritis, neurological disorders, or weakness. Here at The Cloisters we will tailor a physiotherapy program focused on improving strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility, all of which are essential in reducing the risk of falls.
Through targeted exercises, our physiotherapists help individuals strengthen key muscle groups, particularly in the lower body, which provides greater stability and control. Balance training is also a key component, helping individuals to improve their posture and reaction times, thereby reducing the likelihood of losing balance.
We will also address mobility issues, providing techniques to improve gait and movement patterns. For individuals with a history of falls, education on proper posture, footwear, and the use of assistive devices like canes or walkers can be invaluable. Furthermore, home assessments may be conducted to identify and modify environmental hazards that contribute to falls, such as loose rugs or poor lighting.
By incorporating these elements, physiotherapy helps also to build confidence and promote long-term physical independence.
