Ankle sprains are often dismissed as a simple or common injury and full rehabilitation is often disregarded. The chances of reinjuring that same leg within a year of injury is over 50% and this is often put down to lack of rehabilitation.
As well as regaining full range of motion and strength at the ankle it is essential to regain good balance and proprioception on that same side. Also strengthen the whole leg and don't forget the gluts
(buttock) muscles which are often affected following an ankle sprain due to altered walking and reduced loading of the leg.
If you would like more information or treatment following an ankle sprain please get in touch.

Balancing on one leg.
Being able to balance on one leg with good form has many health benefits. It certainly helps to improve the strength and stability around your pelvis but more importantly it has been associated with a reduced risk of falling in the older population.
Try and practice at least twice a day.
Start by holding onto something solid and test how good you are. Once you can balance for 10 seconds holding on, gradually let go but stay near a solid object. keep your pelvis level and a soft knee. Start with 10 seconds and try to build up to 20-30 seconds on both legs.
if you would like further help or advice on balance exercises please get in touch.
