WALK TO SCHOOL
October is the international walk to School month.
This is to promote both physical and mental well being as well as helping the environment with less traffic and pollution.
If your child is walking to school ensure that they have good supportive footwear and use a rucksack/backpack that they can carry on their back.
This promotes better posture and is less stressful on their spines, particularly when they have a rucksack full of books!
When choosing a back pack, make sure that it has a waist strap, wide padded shoulder straps and a good back section.

GOLF
With the beautiful weather continuing, it is the perfect time to get out onto the golf course.
Playing golf does not get you fit for golf so it is important that you include some stretches and conditioning exercises into your week.
Mature golfers tend to have issues with reduced flexibility, especially if they have sedentary jobs. A big part of golf is rotation on a stable base, so as well as improving shoulder and hip flexibility it is essential to have strong gluts and core to stabilize your pelvis and spine.
Consider Pilates type exercises to help strengthen your core including hip bridges, squats and lunges. Practice balancing on one leg with a level pelvis to help improve your balance and stability.
Spend time in between golf to work on your trunk rotation and turn and always warm up before playing.
If you would like more information on improving your golf fitness please get in touch.

Here are some simple exercises from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy that will help to strengthen your lower body. Strengthening your legs, particularly your quads and gluts will also help improve activities like running and walking up hills and steps. Strong muscles also help to protect your joints, as muscles are able to absorb shock more efficiently than your joints.
If you need anymore advice please get in touch.
