I did not take the straightforward route into osteopathy.
I put university on hold at 16 to pursue football professionally. Played for England Schoolboys. Spent years trialling at clubs, learning how to train, how to recover, how to protect a body under pressure.
When football ran its course, I finally made it to the European School of Osteopathy and everything I had learned on the pitch came with me.
In this carousel I am sharing my story with you.
Where this interest came from, how I trained, what I believe about pain and recovery, and why I ended up at AG Osteopathy in Tunbridge Wells.
If you have ever felt like your injury has become your identity, this one is for you.

This is what we tell every patient before their first appointment.
Pain has a way of making you believe things.
That you will always feel like this. That certain movements are off limits. That your body has let you down for good.
Those beliefs are understandable. But they can also be the thing standing between you and a real recovery.
As osteopaths in Tunbridge Wells, a big part of our job is helping patients unlearn those stories, because when you come in with an open mind, everything changes.
If this resonates, your first step is simple… Book in via the link in bio.

Training for a marathon is no small feat. But when knee pain starts creeping in, it can feel like everything you have worked towards is at risk.
This is exactly what one of our patients experienced.
A gradual build-up of anterior knee pain, made worse by running and going downstairs, that was threatening to derail months of preparation.
The diagnosis was Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, one of the most common overuse injuries we see in runners.
The good news? With the right treatment plan, it is very manageable.
Through a structured course of osteopathy focused on releasing muscle tension, restoring joint mobility and correcting biomechanical imbalances, our patient was back training pain-free within weeks and completed their marathon without any knee issues.

Dry needling is one of the most misunderstood treatments in sports and musculoskeletal care.
We hear the same misconceptions constantly, that it's basically acupuncture, that it's really painful, that it's only for serious injuries.
None of that is quite right!
Swipe for the reality check…
And if you've had dry needling before, drop a 👍 if it worked for you or a 😬 if it wasn't your thing.
Genuinely curious!

Pain and swelling behind the knee is something that should never just be ignored or accepted as part of “getting older.”
One of our patients came to us with exactly this.
A persistent aching tightness behind the knee that made standing, walking and getting through the day genuinely uncomfortable.
Imaging confirmed a Baker's cyst, a fluid-filled swelling commonly linked to osteoarthritis.
In three osteopathy sessions across one week, we were able to significantly reduce the pain, encourage the cyst to drain, and restore comfortable movement.
She left with a clear self-care plan to maintain her progress and reduce the risk of it returning.

Ever wondered what really happens when a needle hits a trigger point?
When a muscle goes into spasm it gets stuck in an energy crisis… no blood flow, lactic acid building, pain escalating.
Dry needling or medical acupuncture, resets that cycle directly.
The science is genuinely fascinating.

Most marathon injuries don’t appear overnight, they build gradually.
A calf that’s “just tight”, a knee that only aches after long runs or a hip that feels restricted but settles once warmed up.
During marathon training, these are often early warning signs rather than normal soreness.
The earlier we assess a developing issue, the simpler the solution usually is. A small load adjustment, targeted strength work or hands-on treatment now is very different from enforced rest later.
If you’re in the middle of marathon prep and something isn’t settling, don’t wait until you’re limping.
Marathon prep isn’t just about following a plan, it’s about building the physical capacity to tolerate that plan.
Every year we see runners in Tunbridge Wells start marathon training in good shape cardiovascularly… but underprepared structurally.
Fitness improves quickly, but tendons, joints and connective tissue adapt more slowly.
That gap is where most marathon injuries begin.
A proper pre-training assessment looks at how you move, how you load, where you compensate and what previous injuries might resurface.
It’s not about stopping you training, it’s about keeping you training.
If you’re about to increase mileage for a marathon, a baseline check can highlight small issues before they become 6-week problems.

When it comes to persistent tendon and soft tissue issues, the goal isn’t to simply quiet symptoms.
It’s about helping the body restart processes that may have slowed down during recovery.
Treatment decisions should always be based on what’s actually happening in your tissue, your training load, and your injury history… not just on how long you’ve been in pain.
The right timing and the right approach matter.
At our osteopath clinic in Tunbridge Wells, we use detailed assessments to decide whether shockwave is appropriate, so treatment is always guided by clinical reasoning rather than guesswork.
If you’d like professional guidance before committing to treatment, you can book a free 15-minute consultation via the link in our bio.

Most people we see in clinic haven’t just ignored their back pain, but they’ve tried to manage it themselves… often making things worse.
The issue is when “management“ quietly replaces progress.
That’s usually the point where an assessment helps.
Not to chase another temporary fix, but to understand what your body has adapted to over time and what needs to change for things to actually move forward.
We’ve got some availability this week for first (or your next) osteopathy appointment, where we can assess your back pain once and for all, and you get you back on the road to recovery!

Headaches aren’t always just about what’s happening in your head.
For many people, recurring headaches are linked to how the neck, shoulders, and upper back are coping with daily life.
Long desk hours, stress, and sustained postures all add up over time. When that load isn’t managed well, symptoms can keep cycling back.
The key is understanding why the tension is there, not just trying to quiet it temporarily. That’s where a full-body, movement-focused approach can make a real difference.
If headaches are becoming a pattern rather than a one-off, it may be time to look a layer deeper.

Angus grew up in East Sussex where both he and his family saw an osteopath regularly from a young age. After leaving school he explored different career options and decided to expand his knowledge in the area of health sciences. Four years later Angus graduated from Swansea university having obtained a first class masters degree in Osteopathy.
During his degree, he developed special interests in chronic pain disorders and advanced neurology. This inspired him to perform his own research project combining osteopathy and mindfulness to see if this would provide an added benefit for patients suffering with these conditions, the results of which he is aiming to have published in a medical journal.
Angus is primarily a structural osteopath meaning he uses a variety of different techniques that focus on the body's frame work and connective tissue, to improve the mobility and stability of joints, reduce the likelihood of muscle spasm, as well as improving circulation and lymphatic drainage to the target tissues.
The type of techniques you can expect Angus to use are; joint manipulation and articulation, neuromuscular technique, muscle energy technique, myofascial release, joint harmonics, deep soft tissue techniques and exercise prescription.
Previously to being an osteopath Angus also trained as a qualified fitness instructor which he feels adds an element of rehabilitation to his practice to help achieve sustainable results.
Additionally to Osteopathy, Angus enjoys keeping fit, attending the gym regularly focusing on resistance training. As well as this, skiing is a keen interest of his and he attempts to go on a trip at least once a year. He also has a passion for cooking and nutrition and enjoys creating new dishes; cooking for friends and family.
