Milward House - Pilgrims' Friend Society

Milward House - Pilgrims' Friend Society Milward House is a lovely Christian home situated in a conservation area close to Tunbridge Wells. A hairdresser visits once a week.

Fulfilled Living

In every one of our homes and schemes we express God’s love through compassion and care that helps people live life to the full - fulfilled living. Milward House has an active social life in which residents can take part or follow their own pursuits. We appreciate that each resident has their own individual interests, hobbies and pastimes, and we endeavour to support our residents to maintain this important part of their lives. Our residents are encouraged to lead the lifestyle that they choose, doing as much or as little as they want - residents can simply choose to put their feet up with a daily paper (by arrangement) or a good book from the home’s own collection. Our weekly programme includes activities such as board games, annual holiday week, hymn singing, food events, flower arranging, arm chair exercises and craft classes. There are also coffee mornings, clothing and book sales by mobile outlets and visits by local Christian choirs and musicians. A team of ‘Friends’ of the home support and befriend our residents by coming to see them on a regular basis. In addition, residents benefit from the involvement in the life of the home from likeminded Christians living in the Retirement Living housing units on site. Our Christian background is at the heart of both our values and our actions. At Milward House we try to create a community where Christian worship, prayer and support are a core part of daily life. We have morning devotions Monday – Friday, Sunday services, a monthly communion service and monthly Residents prayer meeting. There are a number of churches of various denominations within easy reach of the home. Around the Home

Enjoying a south facing aspect and lovely views from the front, Milward House provides residential care (including dementia care) in 25 rooms. The home also includes a purpose-built block of seventeen flats, built on three floors, each having a small entrance hall, bed-sitting room, kitchenette and toilet. There are several bathrooms with assisted baths and a walk-in shower. We have one large lounge and two smaller lounges. The main lounge and dining room are both located on the ground floor. The lounge gives access to a pleasant patio area which is wheelchair accessible and a popular sun trap with our residents, and the dining room looks out to the mature, enclosed gardens. A further, separate sitting room and a hobbies room are also located on the ground floor. A guest room is available for relatives and friends by prior arrangement. We enjoy showing visitors around the home, but request that if this is the purpose of your visit you call us first to arrange a suitable time. This allows us to allocate a member of staff to answer your questions. Relatives and friends are welcome to visit at any time during the day, and there is the opportunity to purchase a meal in the home if they wish to do so, by prior arrangement. Accommodation

Last week, we had a trip to the Tunbridge Wells Garden Centre, part of Blue Diamond Garden Centres with our Family Members. We had some relatives and volunteers join a team of staff as well.

David was our Compaid driver who did an excellent job of getting us all settled into the minibus there and back with a very smooth drive. His patience and gentleness with all the Family Members was lovely to watch. Thank you!

Of course, there is no trip without a drink and some shopping!!

Last Friday, the Family Members celebrated our Hummingbird Verity's birthday.

The Family Members all said something nice or a prayer for her. Ann made some cupcakes with Penguins on them! 🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧

Thank you Verity for all you do for the Family Members. ❤❤❤

This week, Clare a friend of our ACE Susan, came to tell us about her work as a physiotherapist in the Eastern Region of Nepal. Susan and Clare worked in Nepal together in 2003-2004. Whereas Susan returned to the UK, Clare has continued to be involved on and off with the Nepali people. She has a heart for those living with disabilities and has been instrumental in starting some Community Based Rehabilitation programs in Nepal.

Our Family Members heard some of the stories, watched some videos and asked some questions. We have a few Family Members who were missionaries abroad, so there was a lot of interest.

Thank you Clare, come again in two years time for another visit.

Last Saturday, our senior carer Ann got our Family Members to make some savoury pastries for our supper.

The pastry squares were painted with egg, or marmite, then some cheese and tomatoes were added, before folding then and painting them with some egg.

They looked like filled croissants.

Today, we pray for our Maintenance Officers (MO). Steve is the MO here at Milward House and he does all the jobs like fixing, decorating, coordinating contractors and generally making our home safe and homely. We also thank God for his care and friendliness of our Family Members. There is no job too small or too large for him. Thank you!

Happy Friday everyone!

Let's lift up our hands to all the maintenance officers in our homes and schemes who keep everything running smoothly! 👏🛠️
