Last night, Andy and Lisa attended the VE80 Day Commemoration Service at All Saints' Church in Melbourn. The service included readings and prayers and an Act of Remembrance for those who fought for peace across Europe in the Second World War. Thank you to all who were involved, it was good to see so many people, young and old, come together on this important anniversary.

We join the nation today in celebrating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.

Our staff will be attending local events to mark this very special day and we will post pictures when they are available.

In the meantime, we are pleased to share a picture of our office window that has been decorated for the occasion.

It’s time to vote for Andy!
When Andy Mcfadyen was named as Royston`s Local Hero in 2023, we thought he had reached the pinnacle of his career. However, this week we heard that he has been nominated for the Funeral Director of the Year Award!

Andy has worked at Newlings of Royston for 18 years, looking after families in his relaxed and friendly style, whilst ensuring that every detail is taken care of. In view of his extensive experience, Andy has become the resident trainer for our new Funeral Arrangers, gently guiding them through the process with patience and good humour.

Andy is known locally for his community work, and has raised nearly £50,000 for local charities and good causes through a wide range of activities, ranging from wing walking and climbing Mount Kilamanjaro to arranging a local talent show and pantomime. He was a deserving winner of the Royston's Local Hero Award and we would love to see him being rewarded for his dedication to the funeral profession too.

If Andy has helped you in some way, and you would like to see him win this award, please spare a few minutes to vote for him. You will be required to give your reasons for voting, but we hope you'll agree he is worth it!

In the weeks before Mothers Day, the shops are filled with cards, flowers and gifts, encouraging us to show our appreciation to our mothers.
For those who have faced the loss of their mother, or mothers who have lost a child, this weekend may be particularly difficult.
Our thoughts are with you.
Cruse Bereavement Care has some further words of comfort and suggestions which may be helpful. The link below will take you to the relevant page on their website:

Grieving on mother's day can be extremely difficult, especially when we see families celebrate it on social media & TV. We can help.

20/03/2025

Today is 5 years since the start of lockdown. We take time to remember all those who lost their lives and we extend our thoughts to their family and friends.
We hope this small but heartfelt act of remembrance will bring comfort to those in need and we invite you to share it too.
