We are sorry to announce that our Bermondsey branch of Chear was closed in August 2022. We have hugely valued the opportunity to work with and alongside the wonderful therapists at Auditory Verbal UK (AVUK). However, many of the Auditory Verbal (AV) therapy sessions are now delivered online which is more convenient for families. The outcomes of the therapy for the listening and talking skills of the children remain as impressive as when children were attending for in-person appointments. This means that the joint appointments for hearing assessment with Chear combined with parent-coaching for listening and talking from therapists from AVUK are available only via appointments at our Shepreth clinic, by request. We are continuing to see many children from all over the UK at our clinic in Hertfordshire and will be delighted to see any of our Bermondsey families there too, if requested. Please email us at info@chears.co.uk or phone 01763 263333.

Our adult clients who have hearing aids and were seen at Bermondsey are having their hearing care transferred to other hearing aid practitioners. Many are being seen by Paul Checkley and his team at Harley Street Hearing (www.harleysthearing.co.uk). Some of our clients are transferring to professionals near to where they live. We will of course be happy to see them at Shepreth but recognise that it will be more convenient to be seen closer to home. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to discuss ideas for alternative options for your hearing aid care (info@chears.co.uk or 01763 263333).

PUPPIES!
We have a five-year old family dog called Tiggy. She is a Huntaway cross with a Welsh collie. On 6th January she had eight gorgeous puppies. I know the Chear website should be about hearing related issues but perhaps we can have something as a distraction in these restricted times of Covid 19. I therefore thought we could post occasional updates about Tiggy and her puppies for those looking for a bit of variety.
These are the six boys and two girls. We put coloured collars so we could tell them apart. At first they were mostly asleep or feeding but within a week they were nuzzling and playing together. Tiggy keeps them very clean with frequent grooming and tidying their space. They have to be weighed every week and are putting on about 100 grams a week, poor Tiggy!
At three weeks they are beginning to explore their space and two are very noisy. Big red is the noisiest, biggest (at 800g in week one) and bossiest. He manages to sound like he is saying “NO!” when he barks. But some of the smaller ones prefer to snuggle up together in group hugs. Baby blue has managed to jettison her collar to be anonymous.
More to follow….

My name is Kirsty and I am currently studying Media and Communications BA at the University of Sussex. For my third year dissertation I am researching representations of deafness in advertising. I am looking for participants who are deaf and 18 years or over to take part in my online survey which will only take up to 20/30 minutes. It would really help me gain a better understanding of how deaf individuals feel represented in the media, so if you could take part that would be great.
