At Nuphalt contracting we are fully committed to operating in a manner that keeps both our teams and members of the public safe. To this end, we have recently begun investing in the Teletrac Navman telematics system.
As anyone who works on the highways is aware, according to the HSE, the second largest cause of workplace fatalities is collision with a vehicle. Any action that can reduce the likelihood of such an incident must be taken and according to a study conducted by the Aberdeen Group the installation of a Telematics system can reduce accidents involving vehicles by 20%. Because of this, we have recently undertaken a successful two-month-long live trial of two of the Teletrac systems on our vehicles and are pleased to report that it has been a resounding success. Following this trial, we will be rolling out the system on all new vehicles entering service and upgrading the existing fleet over the coming months.
The Teletrac system comprises of multiple motion/action activated cameras and the TN360 solution. The cameras will allow for both front and rear camera views that will activate an alert and open a live stream in the vehicle cab if anyone enters the work area as well as the ability to record and store footage on command from the driver in the event of an incident. The vehicles will also be equipped with side mounted cameras that will stream a view of the vehicle’s blind spots whilst the corresponding indicator is in use.
The TN360 is an advanced data collection and analysis tool that can be used by HQ to track vital data points such as incidents of speeding or harsh breaking along with route tracking and live location information. In addition to this, the cameras can be activated from HQ to conduct a remote audit of a work site if the need arose.
This combination of features will work to reduce the likelihood of any incidents involving our vehicles and create a safer environment for both our teams and members of the general public in the vicinity of our vehicles.
