Yesterday was Cowboy Day and our Memory Lane residents enjoyed getting creative with decorating some cowboy/girl boots. Next week is International Beer Day so this afternoon we dug out our stetsons loaded our wagons with beers and headed into our beautiful gardens to enjoy Country and Western Music.

Julie Activities Lead and Martin Activities Coordinator entertained the guests with Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, John Denver and Eagles music. Paige on Activities was the hostess with the mostest serving cold beers to residents and relatives, with a smile. Resident John said “thank you I really enjoyed that and the cold beer went down a treat!” Nathan and Stefanio said it was great to hear some Country Classics , thank you.

🎾🍓 Wimbledon Fun Across Our Homes 🎾🥂

Residents and patients across the country had a delightful time following the annual Wimbledon tennis tournaments.

Many homes and hospitals were decorated with themed flags and banners, as residents and patients engaged in a range of enjoyable activities, including mini tennis championships, quizzes and interactive sessions.

The big tennis enthusiasts were thrilled to watch the famous matches virtually from the comfort of their armchairs and to join the afternoon tea parties with strawberries and cream, Pimm’s and champagne.

Everyone had a fantastic time!

Take a look at some of our favourite moments in the photos below.

FIONA, SENIOR CARER CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH OVERSLADE HOUSE CARE HOME WITH DOUBLE CELEBRATIONS!!

A Senior Carer, Fiona Humphries at Overslade House Care Home in Rugby has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.

Fiona Humphries, now Senior Carer, started at Barchester in July 2015 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years. Staff and residents gathered to celebrate Fiona’s achievement. Fiona received flowers, vouchers and a stunning Barchester Leaf Brooch.

Adele Keenan, Employee Services Director at Barchester said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted Fiona has achieved this milestone. It is dedication like this that ensures our residents are provided with a happy place to live.”

Fiona is also celebrating as her husband recently entered a competition and has won for the first time in his life, they are now proud owners of a stunning green Mustang and can’t quite believe it. Fiona said “it hasn’t quite sunk in yet!”

Duane, Fiona’s husband, said his dream car has always been a mustang and he has been saving up for one for years but life and finances always got in the way. Duane came across the REV Competition on Facebook and saw that the winning prize was a mustang. With nothing to lose Duane thought why not and bought five tickets and thought no more of it. A few days later Duane was at work when he received a phone call to say his numbers had come up and he was now the proud owner of a stunning green Mustang. Duane still could not quite believe it as he has never entered a competition or won anything in his life. The stunning Mustang was delivered on the Thursday morning and Duane and Fiona were over the moon. Fiona said “my husband would like to keep the Mustang and not sell it but he deserves it he is a hard worker and a wonderful husband and family man who would help anybody.”

Fiona, Senior Carer at Overslade House in Rugby and her husband Duane visited Overslade House to show some of the residents their new prize Mustang. Resident Mike said “now that’s a Mustang, very nice!” Our residents and staff were so pleased
for Fiona and Duane.

Violeta Baesu, General Manager of Overslade House Care Home said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of loyal service with Fiona. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Overslade House Care Home when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Fiona, our residents and staff were so thrilled to see the Mustang that Fiona and her husband have won!”

We are moving our acts to the 16th August, please join us then for our Summer Fete.

Well today has been a scorcher, so our activities have been low key with mind games in our Memory Lane with our newly created digital game World of words. Residents have to make up as many words as they can from one word. Tracey did brilliantly and scored 50 while other residents enjoyed physical games not too strenuous for this heat.

Today is World population day and residents completed quizzes and watched docementaries. Nathan commented, it’s going to get worse 65 was considered old when I was young, and you were lucky to make it, look at me I’m 90 , people are living much longer
now!!” Our Memory Lane residents enjoyed colouring in collages of our planet and adding different costumes
and cultures.

This afternoon was a relaxed movie afternoon and residents enjoyed the musical Carousel, whilst eating popcorn and ice lollies.
Our Activities Team then headed off with their new ice cream truck they had created with the help of Jacek, our Maintenance man to deliver ice lollies to staff and residents to help everybody keep hydrated.

Today was National chocolate day and Saturday was the birthday of the NHS. Head Chef, Corey Leake rustled up some chocolate cakes and we rustled up some residents who were keen to deliver them.

Our first stop among many, was Central Surgery, where Helena and Lily came out to greet us and were delighted with the cake. John said “you are lucky there is any left I was very tempted!”

Next stop was Rowlands pharmacy and Eloise and Ellie were also delighted with their cake.

After all their hard work the residents had a picnic break by the canal with tea and cake on board , poor John didn’t have to suffer too long, he did have his cake and eat it in the end !

We had a fabulous time at our Musical Memories Disco with songs from 1930’s through to 2000. We had a couple of John Travoltas there and some Dancing Queens . Music therapy has many benefits, reducing anxiety, creating social connections in a group session, lifting mood, and overall excellent for emotional, physical and mental well being. Music also brings back wonderful memories of our teen years. Please join us next month for our next Musical Memories disco.

Following our disco residents played one of our in-house created digital games Dice Descent a favourite that combines the old with the new, rolling dice and modern technology.

In the afternoon we held games in the garden with the theme for the day Alice In Wonderland Day. Play Your Cards Right and a quiz supplied through Oomph Wellness . Syd was also our lucky winner guessing that there were 200 sweets in the Mad Hatter’s Hat. Well done Syd.

🐝🍯 What a Buzz! 🐝🍯

As part of our Live Virtual Events programme, residents and patients across the country enjoyed a fascinating virtual talk yesterday, led by expert beekeeper Julia Young, on The Wonderful World of Bees.

Everyone was absolutely captivated by her stories – from the intricate waggle dance to the royal drama of bee regicide. Who knew the life of a honeybee could be so exciting?

It was a great opportunity to learn more about nature, hives and the extraordinary teamwork of bees.

To make things even more exciting, the talented chefs at our homes prepared delicious themed treats and refreshments - including honey sandwiches, honey flapjacks and tea sweetened with local honey.

Thank you, Julia! 👏
