When we announced a crackdown on the sale of unauthorised ACU Gold helmet stickers in October, we received lots of questions and comments from the motorcycle sport community about helmet safety. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

We have answered many of your questions in the Q&A you can read here โžก๏ธ https://bit.ly/4pIPSKZ.

It's important riders and organisers understand why our Gold stickers are fundamental to ensuring helmet safety, and that everyone in the ACU family is aware of their responsibilities. โœ…

The Wallop Enduro - 19th April - Entries open Monday 8pm!

We are delighted to confirm The Wallop Enduro will be held on 19th April this year. This event at the prestigious Farleigh Wallop Estate is a unique opportunity to ride among the beautiful bluebells and picturesque Hampshire woodland of this country estate, owned by His Lordship, Viscount Lymington.

For 2026, we are pleased to see the event play host to Round One of the new British Youth Enduro Championship, together with Round Three of the British Classic Enduro Championship, and Round Three of the South East Enduro Combine Championship. As a firm rider favourite, and one of the Southโ€™s best venues, this event is challenging but fun for all abilities, from Championship down to Sportsman, and always sees a sell-out entry. Last yearโ€™s event was praised by riders from Bodmin to York, and Maidstone to Caerphilly.

The course extends to a full 16 mile lap in stunning woodland and parkland, with two distinct Special Tests. The varied going includes wide trails, tricky cambers, winding single track, fire tracks, bomb holes, gullies and more. To see an example of the going from a couple of years ago, take a look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtSiZbeRxIg

Clarification on ACU National Trials Licences for TrialGB Events

The ACU National Trials Licence is only required for riders competing in the Adult classes at TrialGB events. These premier classes operate under specific national-level regulations, which is why a National Trials Licence is mandatory for those competitors.

For all other ACU trials competitions, a National Trials Licence is not required. Events such as the S3 Parts Championship, British Sidecar Trials, and the Normandale Championship can all be contested using the ACU Club Trials Registration.

This means that riders competing outside of the TrialGB Adult classes can continue to participate at national championships and major series with the more accessible Club Trials Registration, helping to keep competition open and affordable across the sport.

Riders are advised to ensure they hold the correct registration or licence for the specific class and event they are entering before competing.

ACU Announces Girls Youth Category and Participation Incentives for the 2026 MXGB Women Championship

The Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) Motocross Commission, in partnership with the promoters of the MXGB Women Championship, is pleased to announce a series of developments for the 2026 season aimed at strengthening the female motocross pathway in Great Britain.

Girls 125/Open Youth Categories for 2026

From 2026, a Girls 125/Open Youth category will be introduced within the MXGB Women Championship. This category will compete alongside the senior womenโ€™s class and will be open to riders aged 13โ€“17. It will mirror the existing Youth 125 and Youth Open categories.

These two youth categories will run as one and be scored accordingly. Riders will compete alongside the main adult womens class but will have their own championship and be scored separately from the adult Women. There will also be a presentation at each event for the top three points scorers in the MXGB Girls Youth. The winner at the end of the year will be the Offical British Girls 125/open British Champion.

Technical Regulations (as per ACU MX Regulations):

Girls Youth 125 (13โ€“17 years)
Minimum 120cc 2-stroke
Maximum 125cc 2-stroke
Manual clutch
Wheel sizes 19 inch rear, 21 inch front

Girls Youth Open (14โ€“17 years)
Minimum 120cc 2-stroke or 175cc 4-stroke
Maximum 150cc 2-stroke or 250cc 4-stroke
Manual clutch
Wheel sizes 19 inch rear, 21 inch front

Participation Incentive for 2026
To further encourage female participation, the ACU Motocross Commission, championship promoters, and partners have secured funding to support new and returning riders.

The first 15 female riders to register for the 2026 MXGB Women and Girls Championship will receive ยฃ100 off their entry fee for Round One.

This initiative builds on the success of a similar ACU participation programme introduced in the 2025 British Enduro Championship, where womenโ€™s entries doubled from five to ten riders, with participation sustained throughout the season.

Steve McCauley, Director of the ACU Motocross Commission, commented:
โ€œTargeted initiatives like this have already proven their value. By reducing financial barriers for a demographic that is traditionally underrepresented, we are creating genuine opportunities for women to enter, progress, and remain in the sport. The success seen in British Enduro demonstrates that these measures can deliver long-term growth. I would like to thank all parties involved in securing this funding for the MXGB Women Championship.โ€

The decision to introduce the Girls Youth categories was made following analysis of the ACU Women in Motocross Survey, international benchmarking with FIM-affiliated federations, and consultation with riders and stakeholders.

The initiative was shaped in collaboration with ACU Womenโ€™s Ambassador and FIM Womenโ€™s Commission member Pippa Laverty, alongside experienced UK riders Claire Winthrop and Lauren May Collingwood, whose first-hand experience within the British motocross pathway was instrumental.

Pippa Laverty added: โ€œBefore implementing these changes, we reviewed international championship structures, survey data, and most importantly listened to riders who have progressed through the ACU system. Girls benefit from mixed racing up to the age of 13, but around 13โ€“14 many begin to face challenges that can lead to dropout. These new categories provide a clear and supportive stepping stone, allowing female riders to develop competitively and progress with confidence. I would like to thank Claire and Lauren for their direct input and expertise, as well as Steve, Colin, and all partners involved in making this possible. I am really looking forward to attending the opening round of the 2026 MXGB Women & Girls Championship and seeing these initiatives come to life on track.โ€

The ACU believes that the combined introduction of Girls Youth categories and targeted participation incentives will significantly improve participation, retention, and progression for female motocross riders in Great Britain.

As we start 2026, the Auto-Cycle Union is delighted to welcome Newton le Willows Motocross Club back onto its register of affiliated clubs.

The North West organisation has been organising with a different permitting body in recent years but has elected to switch back to the ACU for future motocross competition.

Club Chairman, Owen Routledge, said: โ€œWeโ€™re coming back to the ACU after five or six years away because we want maximum security, comprehensive organiser training, and better regulations. We met with the ACU at Motorcycle Live and it was clear the national governing body can offer all of these crucial components.

โ€œMotocross can be a challenging discipline and, as a Newton organising team thatโ€™s relatively young, we donโ€™t want to end up in the dock if something goes wrong. Running with the ACU gives us the peace of mind weโ€™re looking for.โ€

Auto-Cycle Union Chief Executive, Matthew Edwards-Wear, is pleased to see Newton le Willows return to the ACU family. He said: โ€œWeโ€™ve done a lot of work to reshape our motocross offering for clubs in 2026 and itโ€™s great that the tools and support weโ€™re providing to clubs to help them deliver well-run, safe and exciting events is being recognised and valued.

โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to welcome Newton le Willows Motocross Club back into the organisation and to support another great club in the North West of England.โ€
