Technique of the Week: Elevated Adductor RDL

A fantastic variation of the traditional RDL, targeting the glutes and hamstrings of the working leg while also helping to lengthen and strengthen the adductors of the elevated leg.

This is a great exercise for building strength through the posterior chain, supporting the lumbar spine, and helping with injury prevention, including groin strains and knee-related issues.

How to perform:

❖ Hold your weight and place your working leg firmly on the floor
❖ Extend your non-working leg out to the side and place it on a step or low box
❖ Engage your upper back by drawing your shoulder blades towards your spine
Imagine you have tennis balls under your armpits — squeeze them so they do not fall out
❖ With control, push your hips backwards while maintaining a slight bend in the knee of the working leg
❖ Feel the adductors of the elevated leg lengthen, while the hamstrings and glutes of the working leg engage
❖ Pause at the bottom
❖ Drive powerfully through the hip of the working leg to return to the starting position

Prescription:
2–3 sets of 8–10 reps per leg

Regression:
Perform the movement with both feet flat on the floor and a very light weight until confident with the hip hinge pattern, then progress to elevating the non-working leg.

Progression:
Increase the weight or elevate the non-working leg further to increase the range of movement.

Technique of the Week: FitBall Hack Squat & March 🔥

A brilliant lower body combo to build strength, stability, and control.

The hack squat targets the quads with added glute and hamstring engagement, while the march challenges the hip flexors to help improve power through your running stride. Using the FitBall adds an unstable surface, encouraging pelvic stability, deep core activation, balance, and helping reduce injury risk.

Key prompts:• FitBall against the wall, in contact with your lower back• Walk feet away to create tension on the ball, keeping a narrow stance• Lower into your squat with a 3-second descent• Hold for 2 seconds at the bottom• Drive up powerfully to standing• Pause for 2 seconds to find balance• Lift one knee into your march• Hold for 2 seconds at the top• Return the leg slowly to the floor

Dosage: 3–4 sets of 8–10 reps

Regression:Widen the stance for the squat, or practise the squat and march separately before combining them.

Progression:Add a mini band around the laces of the feet, hold the squat for longer at the bottom, or add a light weight at chest height.

Save this one for your next lower body session ✅

Skelly is ready for marathon season (thanks Tina! 💜)

Always a busy and exciting time in the clinic! This year in particular is exciting for the LMC team! More on that later.

We’ve been seeing lots of both first-time and seasoned marathon runners as they prepare to take on the 26.2 miles.

We’re very busy this week but still have a couple of appointments available for sports massage and last-minute treatment. We also have good availability next week.

Please be sure to bring in your medals and share your marathon stories—we love hearing them!
