Sam and Laura had a great evening on Wednesday at Rugby Golf Club delivering their Golfer’s Body MOT talk. We all love working with so many of the golfers in clinic and are enjoying deepening our relationship with the club by sharing our golf-specific knowledge with everyone there too.

It was fantastic to see such a great turnout with new and familiar faces, and an audience that was really engaged and willing to take part in the movement tests and discussions. We explored how mobility, strength and balance all play an important role in the golf swing, and how simple self-checks can help golfers better understand their own physical condition.

By the end of the session, everyone had a clearer idea of what their body can do well, where they may have limitations, and what they can do to help themselves. There were plenty of excellent questions at the end too, which shows how much interest there is in staying pain-free and continuing to play good golf for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable and interactive evening!

Sam and Laura are looking forward to putting people through their golf paces tomorrow and teaching them some easy self test and self help strategies to improve their wellbeing and golfing performance!

Sam and Laura are looking forward to going back to Rugby Golf Club on Wednesday evening for their next talk, this time taking the audience through a free Golfer’s MOT.

They will be teaching everyone how to assess their own mobility, strength and coordination quickly and easily, and giving them the tools to make improvements to benefit their golf!

The previous talk Sam and Laura gave in January was a great success and really well supported, so they are excited to see everyone there again!

Limbo…!
Something I didn’t fully appreciate before this injury is how challenging the “in-between” phase can be.
The stage where you’re injured… but waiting for surgery.
Life doesn’t stop. Work continues. Responsibilities remain.
But everything feels slightly different.
There’s a constant awareness of the knee.
Uncertainty around timelines.
And a need to adapt day-to-day decisions.
From the outside, things can look relatively normal.
But internally, there’s a lot more being managed.
This phase isn’t about pushing through.
It’s about adjusting — physically and mentally.
Because recovery doesn’t just happen in rehab sessions.
It happens in how you navigate daily life around them.

Have you ever wondered why we have kneecaps? Even if you haven’t this shows brilliantly how they help our quad muscles to straighten our knees!

We’ve finally been able to cycle outdoors to climb some good Northamptonshire hills. Nothing as steep as Mont Ventoux! But we rode over a longer distance than our actual climb to work on our endurance and build stamina in our legs.

The physio becomes the patient - update!
A lot of people think ACL recovery begins after surgery.
In reality, it starts long before.
The phase before surgery is called pre-habilitation — or pre-hab.
The aim is to go into surgery with the knee as calm, mobile and strong as possible.
My current priorities are simple:
- Reduce swelling
- Restore full knee extension
- Reactivate the quadriceps
…and keep the rest of me fit and strong!
The exercises are not complex.
But they require patience and consistency.
Being on the other side of the process has reinforced something I’ve always told patients:
Surgery repairs the ligament.
Rehabilitation restores the knee.
