🚑 Nosebleeds happen more often than you think—so do you know what to do? 🤔

Here’s a quick first aid test:
👉 A. Tilt the head back
👉 B. Tilt the head forward

💡 Correct answer: B. Tilt the h

This prevents blood from flowing down the throat, which can cause nausea or vomiting.

🩺 Always pinch the soft part of the nose for 10 minutes while leaning forward.

✨ A Real-Life Story: Why First Aid Matters

How a teacher helped save a child's life.

It was a normal lunchtime at school. The dining hall was full of chatter and clattering trays when suddenly, one of the children started choking. At first, a few thought he was just coughing, but within seconds, it was clear he couldn’t breathe.

Luckily, Mr Smith (one of the teachers) had recently been on our first aid training. He didn’t panic. He knew exactly what to do.

He went straight over, encouraged the child to try and cough, but nothing shifted. Without wasting time, he gave firm back blows, just like he’d been shown in training. On the third blow, the food shot out, and the child gasped a breath. The colour returned to his face almost instantly.

The whole hall had gone silent, and then the relief was overwhelming. The boy was safe. His friends were shaken but comforted. And Mr Smith? He was calm, collected and quietly thankful he’d learned those simple steps.

💡 This is why first aid training is so important. Emergencies don’t wait. Knowing what to do can truly save a life.

🚑 Could you save a life with just one simple action?

The recovery position is one of the most powerful first aid skills you can learn — and you don’t need medical training to use it.

If someone is unconscious but still breathing, the recovery position helps keep their airway clear, prevents choking, and could make the difference between life and death while waiting for emergency help.

Our latest blog explains:
✅ Why the recovery position is so important
✅ When (and when not) to use it
✅ Step-by-step guidance you can follow in an emergency

Food and drink facilities: Safer eating section

⚠ Children must always be within sight and hearing of a member of staff
whilst eating.

⚠ Choking can be completely silent; therefore, it is important
for [providers/childminders] to be alert to when a child may be starting
to choke.

⚠ Where possible, [providers/childminders] should sit facing children whilst they eat so they can make sure children are eating in a way to prevent choking and so they can prevent food sharing and be aware of any unexpected allergic reactions.

Here are some high-risk foods.

🔥 MYTH BUSTED!
Have you heard the old advice to put butter on a burn? ❌ Not only is this wrong, but it can actually make the burn worse by trapping heat.

✅ The correct first aid treatment is simple:
👉 Run the burn under cool running water for at least 20 minutes.
👉 Remove any tight clothing or jewellery near the burn.
👉 Cover loosely with cling film or a clean cloth.

Knowing the right steps can make all the difference in an emergency. 💙
