I have seen at first hand how hard it it is to dig a grave.

Funeral homes from years ago didn't look very inviting. I would have had deep anxiety to set foot through that door.

I pulled at Daddy's shirt
and said "Come play with me".
Daddy turned and whispered,
"please leave me be".

I walked away and cried
and then laid upon my bed.
I sobbed as I recalled
the fun times in my head.

I waited for my Daddy,
to come and hold me tight,
that's what he used to do
to always make things right.

Daddy never came,
and my crying went unheard,
so I went back to his side
and told him I was scared.

This time when Daddy looked at me,
I saw sorrow in his eyes.
He told me that his Daddy
was now an angel in the skies.

He told me how he missed him
and wished he was still here.
He said he wanted to be alone,
in fact he made it clear.

He turned away from me
and I tugged his shirt again.
I told him I was sorry
and that I understood his pain.

At this my Daddy smiled,
and said "how can you understand?"
I said cos I too had a Daddy
who no longer holds my hand.

I told him that I missed him
and I had memories too,
but my Daddy is still living
and "Daddy, I love you".

A beautiful but sad poem
