🖤✝️ On 21 October 1966, the worst mining-related disaster in British history took place in Aberfan, a small village in South Wales. This harrowing and tragic event started when the nearby colliery ran out of tipping space in the valley floor in 1916.
✝️ A total of 116 children and 28 adults were killed when the catastrophe happened, the colliery spoil tip collapsed over a primary school and surrounding area.

🕯️ We remember those young lives lost, the families who mourned, and the community that showed incredible strength in the face of unimaginable sorrow.

May their memory continue to be a reminder of love, unity, and resilience in times of grief. 🕊️

“Why would coffins be plain when lives aren’t?” 🤔

We saw this motto today and HAD to share! 😄

Did you know that in some cultures, people celebrate life even in death — with coffins shaped like the things they loved most? ⚰️💖 From cars 🚗 and shoes 👠 to Twix bars 🍫, chillies 🌶️ and airplanes ✈️ — these incredible creations are called fantasy coffins.

They originated in Ghana, where funerals are vibrant celebrations of a person’s passions, dreams, or profession. Each coffin is handmade and tells the story of the life it holds ... colourful, joyful, and full of meaning.

Wow! We love to talk about all things DEATH in general. Whether it's the death of things or history or people, we are curious so we share it for others to see.
Do you know anyone who used to go to The former Sunflower Nursery in Rugeley? Tag them in a comment and share a story with us 🙂

Dr Raymond Martinot standing at the freezer containing the body of his wife preserved by self-made cryonics, in 1993. He was also frozen at his death, but following a failure of the temperature control system, their bodies were finally cremated.

In a dim cellar beneath a French home, Dr. Raymond Martinot rests his hand on a steel freezer, the coffin he built for love. After his wife’s death, he refused to surrender her to time. Using his own makeshift cryonics system, he froze her body, believing that one day science might bring her back. When he too passed away, his family honored his wish to join her in that suspended dream. For years, the pair lay side by side in cold silence, a monument to devotion and denial.

But entropy has no mercy. A mechanical failure broke the system, the cold surrendered to warmth, and their bodies thawed. In the end, they were cremated, their story closing not in resurrection, but in fire.

Added Fact: Martinot’s attempt at home cryonics was entirely illegal under French law. When the freezer failed in 2002, officials intervened, citing public health concerns. The case reignited debate in Europe over the ethics and practicality of human cryopreservation.

People tend to believe that grief shrinks over time. What really happens is that we grow around our grief.
