SPOTLIGHT ON WESTERN LOWER LIMB ACUPUNCTURE AT REID PODIATRY, RUGELEY
Only Podiatrists who have undergone training and been awarded appropriate certification can practice Western Medical Acupuncture of the lower limb. It is used as a therapeutic “tool” in the Podiatrist’s arsenal to relieve a patient’s symptoms of pain resulting from injuries of the soft tissue, musculature, tendons, or neuromas.
How does Western Medical Acupuncture Work?
Acupuncture needles are placed along specific pathways or meridians at acupoints or trigger points. The needles stimulate the release of natural pain killers, triggering a healing response from the natural autoimmune system.
Aimee, one of our podiatrists, uses her in-depth knowledge of the anatomy of the lower limb to target specific muscles, soft tissue, nerve tissue bundles, or tendons.
What conditions can a podiatrist treat with Western Medical Acupuncture of the lower limb?
Aimee can effectively use Western Medical Acupuncture as a “stand-alone” treatment or in conjunction with other podiatry treatments.
Conditions which can be treated include:
• Soft tissue foot pain
• Painful joints
• Arthritis of the knee joint
• Plantar fasciitis
• Heel pain
• Morton’s neuroma
• Forefoot pain
• Tendonitis e.g., Achilles tendonitis
• Tendinopathies of the lower limb in general
• Hamstring tears/pulls
• Tendon strains
• Malleolar (ankle) pain
Who is suitable for Western Medical Acupuncture?
Not everyone is suitable for Western Medical Acupuncture of the lower limb. The Podiatrist will undertake a full assessment to ascertain suitability.
