12 years since earning my Green beret, here’s what it taught me.
12 years ago,I was passed for duty to join the Royal Marines by H.R.H Princess Anne
The culmination of a gruelling 11 months of training, with injuries in order to earn my Green beret and be able to call myself a Royal Marine.
An honour which is earned, not given.
A career I’m incredibly proud of and one which gave me a foundation for life.
Here’s the lessons I took away…
1. You are more capable than you think, you just have to metaphorically keep putting one foot in front of the other in order to achieve what you want. Do what Is required not what you feel like.
2. Humour in the challenging times is absolutely potent. Think of it as a skill to be learnt.
3. Find your tribe, a group of like minded individuals who challenge you to do better and strive for excellence.
4. Systems beat chaos. Chaos is constant, in all areas of life. Having systems in place creates calm.
5. Be the first to adapt. Part of the plan is, it not going to plan. Always be quick to pivot and become solution oriented.
6. “Do more, with less” you sometimes won’t have all the tools you need. Do what you can with what you’ve got.
7. Comfort is the enemy. Doing things that challenge you and are inherently hard is the recipe for growth and evolution.
