This handsome boy is Norman!!

Normal underwent a hemilaminectomy 5 weeks ago at Movement Referrals: Independent Veterinary Specialists. He’s slowly able to walk again following surgery with some wobbliness, but well on the way to recovery.

LASER therapy, exercises to work on balance and co-ordination and hydrotherapy in the aquatic treadmill will all be part of his recovery plan!

Top work Norman (and his mum!) 🐶

CPD Event - “Contextualised Care in Small Animal Orthopaedics and Neurology”

📍Where - The Atrium, Chester Zoo
📅 When - November 12th

Speaker Profile and Talk Teaser!

👨‍🏫 Ben Walton is a RCVS Specialist in Small Animal Surgery and one of the Directors at Movement Referrals. Ben graduated in 2002 and spent two years in mixed practice, and a further six years in small animal general and emergency practice, before returning to the university to conduct clinical research and complete his Specialist training. He has been solely involved in orthopaedics for 15 years, and a recognised Specialist for ten of those.

At this event, Ben will deliver a case-based, interactive discussion on Severe Spinal Cord Injury in Dogs.

🐕 When a dog presents unable to walk, important clinical decisions must often be made in a time-pressured manner. Owners are often understandably worried, and our patients can be distressed. There are multiple clinical and non-clinical factors that must be considered in order to take the most appropriate action in a given set of circumstances.

☎️ The clinicians at Movement Referrals are always on hand to provide prompt, expert advice to referring vets.

💬 Ben’s session will aim to furnish attending vets with up-to-date evidence, allow them to work their decision-making brain muscles, and develop the knowledge and skills they need to make good decisions for the patients, with the confidence that is reassuring to worried owners.

📖 What - Contextualised Care in Small Animal Orthopaedics and Neurology
📍Where - The Atrium, Chester Zoo
📅 When - November 12th

According to RCVS Knowledge,

"Contextualised care is a way of delivering veterinary care that acknowledges that there are different ways to approach the diagnosis and treatment of an animal, depending on the circumstances of the individual animal and their caregivers, and the context in which the care is delivered.

This requires a partnership between caregivers/owners, and the veterinary team, all working together for the best quality of life for the patient. "

At Movement Referrals, we work closely with our referring veterinary teams and our clients to ensure we take the action that is best for any individual patient. We are strong advocates of evidence-based veterinary medicine, and we firmly believe that .

Vets - join us for this afternoon of talks, case-studies and discussion that will highlight the importance of this clinical approach, cement our working partnerships, and give you confidence when managing cases in daily practice.
