EPR? Emergency Preservation Resuscitation.

Trauma victims placed in a state of suspended animation to buy more time for surgeons to save seriously injured patients. This is involves rapidly cooling the brain to less than 10C by replacing the patients blood with ice cold saline solution. Doctors in the U.S where it is being trialled are hoping that rapidly cooling trauma victims will reduce brain activity buying valuable time for surgeons to operate and when treated the patient is warmed up and resuscitated. Another aim is to reduce brain damage suffered when victims survive their injuries.
