⚠️ Rising Measles Cases in the UK – Please Take Action ⚠️

There has been a concerning rise in measles cases across the UK. So far in 2026, there have been 130 confirmed cases.

Worryingly, 1 in 6 children are not fully vaccinated, leaving many at risk of this highly infectious disease.

Measles is not just a childhood illness, it is a serious condition that can lead to complications, hospitalisation, and in some cases, death.

Please take a few minutes to listen to our very own Dr Dowling as she speaks about the risks of measles and shares her personal story. Her experience highlights just how serious this illness can be and why vaccination is so important.

Vaccination is the best protection for you, your child, and our wider community.

If you are unsure about your own or your child’s vaccination status or if you would like to book an appointment for your vaccine, please submit an eConsult request and our team will arrange this for you.

We are urging all of our patients to take action now to help protect themselves and others.

🌈 February is LGBTQ+ History Month 🌈

This February we join communities across the UK in celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month 2026, a time to recognise and reflect on the rich history, diversity and achievements of LGBTQ+ people. It’s also a chance to raise awareness of the ongoing challenges many in our community face and to promote inclusion and understanding for everyone.

The theme for 2026 is Science and Innovation, highlighting the incredible contributions LGBTQ+ people have made in science, research, technology and beyond, as well as acknowledging the historic barriers that LGBTQ+ people have overcome.

As your local GP surgery, we’re committed to providing a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all patients and their families. ❤️

📢 Why follow Lodge Health Partnership on social media?

Did you know our local ICB spends a six-figure amount each year on text messages to patients? By following us on Facebook or Instagram, you can help us reduce this cost while still staying informed.

We regularly share:
✅ Answers to common questions
✅ Advice for everyday illnesses
✅ Helpful videos on how you can support your care
✅ Surgery updates (road closures, disruptions, phone or internet outages)
✅ E-consult issues and service changes
✅ Scam alerts that may affect patients

With over 22,000 patients registered, fewer than 1,000 currently follow us online and we get it… why follow your GP surgery?

But social media is often the quickest way to get important updates, especially if you can’t get through on the phone or complete an e-consult. We’ll also let you know if you need extra travel time due to roadworks or unexpected incidents.

✨ Help us to help you... if you're a registered patient, follow us today on Instagram or Facebook.

Already following? We’d love your feedback... what posts would you like to see more (or less) of?

💬 Time to Talk Day 💙

Today is Time to Talk Day, a valuable opportunity to encourage open conversations about mental health.

As our Mental Health Nurse, Irene, shares:

“Statistically, one in four of us will experience mental health difficulties this year.
As you can see, mental health problems are common, so let’s talk about them. Many people may feel reluctant to open up due to concerns about stigma.

My invitation is for us all to communicate more and support one another. Take a moment today to reach out to a friend, colleague, or someone in your life, and simply check in with them?

You may want to talk but not feel comfortable speaking to someone you know. In those situations, some people may feel safer talking to a professional.
If this is the case for you, I am available at the Lodge Health Partnership to offer support.”

Let’s use today as a reminder that talking and listening can make a real difference. 💙

Yesterday, some of our staff attended a Basic Life Support refresher course!

Keeping these skills up to date is vital in the workplace, but they’re just as important beyond it. Knowing how to recognise and respond to a medical emergency means our team could make a real difference in the community, whether that’s helping a family member, a neighbour, or a member of the public until emergency services arrive.

These skills also support better understanding of emergency symptoms and why they matter. Early recognition of signs such as breathing difficulties, chest pain, or loss of consciousness can help a GP or healthcare professional decide the most appropriate care, including when urgent or emergency treatment is needed.

Would you know what to do if someone collapsed in your community? If not, why not take a moment today to find out where your nearest defibrillator (AED) is located. You don’t need to be trained to use one they give clear instructions and could save a life in an unlikely but critical situation.

Well done to everyone who took part and continues to invest in skills that help keep others safe, both at work and in everyday life 💙

🚨 IMPORTANT SCAM ALERT – GP Surgery Phone Calls 🚨

We have been made aware by Hertfordshire Police of an active phone call scam targeting patients.

You may receive a call with a recorded message claiming to be from the NHS or your local GP surgery, saying that your details are out of date and that you will be removed from the surgery list unless you update them. The message then asks you to press a number or click a link and provide personal details.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM ⚠️

Please be aware:

We will never call you asking you to update your contact details, unless we are trying to contact you in an emergency.

If we believe your contact details are out of date, you will receive a letter sent to your registered address.

It is a patient’s responsibility to keep their contact details up to date.

If you receive a call like this:
📞 Hang up immediately
📞 If you are concerned, call us on 01727 853107

If you believe your contact details may be out of date, please update them using our official online form:
Your email address and phone number can also be changed via the NHS app.

Keeping your details up to date directly with us helps us to help you and reduces the risk of you being caught out by potential scams.

ℹ️ Please note:
Using eConsult may allow you to provide updated contact details, however this is not guaranteed to update your records and is not an official method for changing your details.
If you change your address, phone number or email, please always use our online form above.

👵👴 If you have elderly or vulnerable relatives/neighbours who may not use social media, please pass this message on to help keep them safe.

We have been awarded the Purple Star! 💜 Happy to announce that The Lodge Health Partnership has been successfully reaccredited with the Purple Star accreditation until December 2028!

Why does this matter to you? This isn't just a badge. Reaccreditation proves that we consistently meet high standards for fairness, safety, and dignity in our care.

Improvements that benefit all our patients were specifically highlighted:

✅ Clearer Communication: We were praised for taking the time to explain procedures (such as blood tests) clearly and compassionately.

✅ Holistic Safety: We don't just treat symptoms. We offer "holistic care" that actively works to close health gaps and reduce inequalities.

✅ Proven Quality: Reaccreditation means we didn't just get it right once. We have been reviewed again to make sure we are continuously improving our services.

Special recognition goes to Dr Strain and Lyn, who lead on this area and help us maintain these high standards.

Thank you for supporting us in building a practice that values our whole community!
