INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 🤍

Working in women’s health has shown me something again and again:

Women are incredibly resilient.

I see women whose bodies have grown babies, healed, adapted and kept going through huge changes.

But I also see how often women minimise their own needs.

Ignoring symptoms.

Accepting discomfort.

Thinking they should just "put up with it."

Pelvic floor problems.
Pain.
Weakness.
Leakage.
Heaviness.

These things might be common — but that doesn’t mean you have to live with them.

You deserve to feel strong and supported in your body at every stage of life.

Not just before children.

Not just when you're young.

Not just when symptoms get bad enough.

Always.

Looking after yourself is not selfish.

It’s essential 🤍

WHY AREN’T WE TAUGHT ABOUT OUR PELVIC FLOORS?

One of the most common things I hear from women is:

"No one ever told me this."

No one explained:

• How the pelvic floor actually works
• What is normal after birth
• What isn’t normal
• How posture affects symptoms
• How to protect it long term

We are taught to prepare for birth.

We are taught how to care for babies.

But we are rarely taught how to care for our own bodies.

So many women struggle quietly thinking they are the only one.

You are not.

Pelvic floor problems are incredibly common — but they are rarely talked about.

That’s one of the reasons I do this work.

Because women deserve knowledge about their own bodies.

Did anyone ever explain pelvic floor health to you properly?

"I DO MY KEGELS BUT IT’S NOT ENOUGH"

This is one of the most common things I hear.

Many women are doing pelvic floor exercises and still struggling.

That’s because pelvic floor health is about more than squeezing.

Sometimes the issue is:

• Muscles that are too tight
• Muscles that don’t coordinate well
• Poor breathing patterns
• Too much pressure on the pelvic floor
• Weak surrounding muscles

Your pelvic floor is part of a team.

And the team needs to work together.

In today’s live I’ll explain what else matters besides kegels.

If this sounds familiar — you are not alone.

"I WAS TOLD INCONTINENCE IS NORMAL AFTER 40"

I hear this all the time.

Women are told leaking is just part of being:

• A mum
• Over 40
• Postmenopausal
• "Getting older"

Yes — pelvic floor changes are common.

But that does not mean you have to live with them forever.

Incontinence is a sign that your system needs support.

And there are many things that can help.

You deserve better than being told to just accept it.

We’ll talk about this in today’s live.

If you’ve ever been told "it’s normal" — this is for you.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU HAVE PELVIC FLOOR SYMPTOMS?

So many women ignore symptoms because they feel embarrassed or unsure where to start.

But leaking, heaviness, discomfort or pressure are signals — not something to ignore.

Good first steps:

• Speak to a specialist pelvic health physio
• Learn how your pelvic floor actually works
• Look at your breathing and posture
• Build strength gradually
• Get the right support

You deserve proper help.

Pelvic floor issues are common.

But "common" does not mean "normal".

I’ll talk more about where to start in today’s live.

If you’ve been putting this off — consider this your sign.

IS IT EVER TOO LATE TO IMPROVE YOUR PELVIC FLOOR?

Short answer: No.

I regularly work with women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond who improve their pelvic floor function.

Your body is always capable of change.

Pelvic floor health isn’t about age.

It’s about awareness, strength, coordination and support.

You are not "past it".

You are not "too late".

And you definitely haven’t missed your chance.

Small consistent changes can make a huge difference.

I’ll be talking about why improvement is possible at any stage in today’s live.

If you’ve ever worried it’s too late — this one is for you.

PROLAPSE ISN’T JUST ABOUT KEGELS

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that prolapse can be fixed by doing more pelvic floor exercises.

Pelvic floor health is about much more than squeezing.

Your posture, breathing and movement patterns all affect how pressure moves through your body — and that pressure directly impacts your pelvic floor.

If all the pressure is pushing downwards, your pelvic floor has to work much harder.

Sometimes the biggest improvements come from:

• How you stand
• How you sit
• How you breathe
• How you lift
• How you move

Your pelvic floor doesn’t work in isolation — it’s part of a whole system.

And understanding that can be a game changer.

I’ll be talking more about this in tomorrow’s live.

If you have prolapse or suspect you might, you are not alone 🤍

I didn’t set out to work in women’s health. I wanted to help injured dancers like me.

But life has a way of nudging you in the right direction.

From nervous first postnatal classes where we took turns holding babies… to a thriving North London business… to discovering pelvic floor health through my own experience and moving to St Albans.

My work has grown as I’ve grown.

And honestly — I’m still fascinated by the female body every single day.

Pregnancy. Postnatal Recovery. Pelvic floor health. Perimenopause. And everything in between.

It’s all connected.

And I feel incredibly lucky that this is the work I get to do 🤍

Check your b***s gang.

One of my lovely clients has recently had a breast cancer diagnosis. She has had her first surgery and came back to class for the first time today. There were things she couldn’t manage and we found a way round them or found other things for her to do. Whenever you come to class with me, know that I will find a way to make it work - sometimes just turning up and being on the mat is enough to make a difference to how you feel. Showing up for yourself matters.

When she sent me this lovely email afterwards I asked if I could share it as a reminder for us all - it’s so easy to forget that we can make a difference to our health outcomes with something as simple as checking our b***s. She had a mammogram 6 months before her cancer was picked up after finding some skin dimpling and the mammogram was all clear. If she hadn’t been on top of her b**b checks, she could still be walking around not knowing that she needed treatment.

I am so lucky to work with so many amazing and inspiring women who teach me so much and it is such an honour to feel like my classes and support makes a difference to people when they are facing the hardest of times. To all of my clients, I care about you and am here for you in any way I can be ❤️💪 *searches for b**b emoji*
