Hello Everyone,
After a summer break, I am back again with a weekly Wednesday night (7.15pm-8.45pm) yoga nidra class offering, and really looking forward to it!
This time it is in the cosy Upstairs room at The Yoga Hall
(https://theyogahall.co.uk/classes/yoga-nidra/ #/).
It is where we hold The Red Tent, and where various therapies take place. So it has a beautiful and homely energy.
The room comfortably takes 6 bodies live, but there will also be the option of joining online for the lower price of £14. This has the advantage of no travelling time and being able to roll straight into bed, but misses out on the community aspect and energy exchange that a live class has. So, if you can, I’d really encourage live participation.
We always start with a meditation and/or breathwork. Then a few gentle yoga movements (very gentle) to prepare the body in the very best way for yoga nidra. We then dive into a nidra script, which vary week to week, but often have associations with the natural world; the seasons, crystals, rocks, the 5 elements and so on. We finish with tea and a check in on the experiences of the group.
Its a gentle, still place to arrive into, and people often report positive effects for days afterwards.
We also follow the 8 Celtic Calender celebrations as we journey through the year. This means a special yoga nidra script (and seasonal altar) to honour these shifts in our environment. It helps to keep us connected to our cyclical nature.
The first one of these is the Autumn Equinox 🍂 which we will celebrate on Wed 21st Sep. I’ll send out a reminder on here when this is coming up.
My own journey with yoga nidra started almost 20 years ago when I used the self hypnosis recordings (similar to yoga nidra but without the rotation of consciousness around the body) by Duncan McColl to soothe parts of me experiencing depression and anxiety. I used to listen the same tape every morning and every evening. I noticed what an effect the positive language had on my psyche and began to realise that even when asleep, my conscious mind was still taking it all in. Neurologically, something was changing! This modality, alongside a committed Hatha yoga practice, helped me on the way to integrating and healing these intense emotional states. I then moved on to listening to actual yoga nidra scripts and going on a number of retreats in Stroud with Uma & Nirlipta Tuli (a magical converted garage space with Nirlipta’s paintings of the 10 Mahadivas gracing the walls). I was very taken with a modality that creates internal and impactful change without the need to ‘try.’ This resonated with the part of me that needed acceptance, peace and a calm, undemanding space. Finally, in 2014, I took the full yoga nidra training (Total Yoga Nidra) and started sharing this space of rest, healing and nervous system support 🙏🏻
I look forward to welcoming beginners and old hands (or bodies!) to this space… 🌹🙏🏻
