Your adrenal glands are like your body’s battery packs — pumping out adrenaline during stress, regulating blood sugar, and helping you cope with life’s demands.
The trouble is, we were never designed to be overstimulated 16+ hours a day by stress, stimulants, high-fat foods, work, and constant technology. Despite the comfort of our lifestyles we now have more demands on us than ever. Add to that the fact that many of us are carrying underlying pathogens such as Epstein–Barr Virus (EBV), creating a continuous source of internal stress, and we have the perfect recipe for modern-day burnout.
Symptoms of imbalanced adrenals:
- Can’t sleep at night despite being tired
- Feeling “tired but wired” or on edge
- Shakiness or inner restlessness
- Running out of steam mid-afternoon
- Cravings for caffeine or stimulants
- Sudden drops in blood sugar or intense hunger
- Anxiety, shakiness
- Hair loss and thinning
- Loss of libido
Tips for supporting and healing weak adrenals:
- Eat plant-based adrenal snacks every 1.5 hours containing potassium, sodium, and glucose (e.g. banana, celery, and dates)
- Make sure you are supplementing with adrenal supportive herbs, vitamins and minerals
- Reduce dietary fat, especially early in the day. Excess fat triggers adrenaline release for digestion.
- Cut down on non-essential commitments and create true rest time
- Relax with a hot water bottle or heat pack to your lower back and abdomen to warm and soothe your adrenals
