Thank you to everyone who joined my Learn to Meditate workshop in the Hot Yoga Studio at Westminster Lodge this afternoon. It was a calm, thoughtful group and a real pleasure to share the space together.

During the session we explored what meditation truly is and what it isn’t. Meditation isn’t about clearing the mind or sitting perfectly still. The mind produces thoughts naturally. Meditation simply changes our relationship with them.

We looked at meditation through both Western scientific research and Indian philosophical traditions, and how simple practices such as breath awareness and mantra meditation can support sleep, emotional balance and mental clarity.

Participants experienced two practices:

• Breath awareness meditation and Humming Bee Breath (Bhramari Pranayama)
• Meditation using the mantra 'So Hum'

Even 10 minutes of daily practice can begin to shift our stress response and overall wellbeing.

✨A simple way to start at home

• Sit somewhere comfortable
• Close the eyes gently
• Notice the natural breath
• When the mind wanders, gently return
• Start with just 10 minutes a day

Midlife can feel like everything’s shifting - hormones, mood, energy, even our sense of self. Ayurveda teaches us that this isn’t a breakdown..… it’s a breakthrough.

This natural transition marks the movement from the Pitta to Vata stage of life - from doing and achieving toward reflecting, simplifying and returning to balance. It’s a sacred invitation to pause, listen, and realign.

Yes, oestrogen declines, but something deeper begins to awaken - our inner wisdom, intuition and connection to what truly matters. When we tune in rather than push through, the body begins to guide us toward what it needs: slower mornings, earlier bedtimes, grounding foods, gentler yoga, deeper rest.
