It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the proposed closure of Grace Muriel House (GMH).
GMH opened its doors to the first residents on the 15th May 1972. It has since grown in reputation throughout the local community and currently enjoys an ‘Outstanding’ rating with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Affiliated to The Abbeyfield Society, it is a residential care home for the elderly. It has provided a loving home for the many residents that have passed through the doors, provided employment for the local community and opportunities for volunteers of all ages whilst building links with many schools and local community groups.
All the staff at Grace Muriel House have worked tirelessly throughout the Covid pandemic. They have faced many challenges head on with compassion and grace, whilst working to support residents, their families, as well as each other. Residents, however, have always been the first priority. The close links forged between residents and staff is what will make it so very difficult if it is the case that GMH closes. All the staff are committed to supporting our residents with the new challenges associated with the potential closure and are committed to being there for them during any future transition to a new home.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank every one of our staff, volunteers and supporters that have given their time so generously over the years. Without them all, we would not be the ‘Outstanding’ home we are without their hard work, commitment, love and dedication.

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Today we had a final cuddle with our chicks before they went to their new home with our lovely staff member Lorelie. We are so happy they are going to a great home and that we will hear all about them growing up!

Today Siouxsie set up a make shift pen for our chicks! 🐥 it was great to sit and enjoy watching the chicks having a run around together, and also watching them trying to spread their wings! 🐤 🐣 @ The Abbeyfield St Albans Society, Grace Muriel House

This months snack crate has taken us to South Africa. We enjoyed the chocolates - voted the best so far and the savoury snacks! Using technology we have been able to view how vast and varied the landscape in from Savannah’s to dramatic mountains. We had also taken a look at who are doing great work to save endangers species in South Africa. @ The Abbeyfield St Albans Society, Grace Muriel House

Please take a minute to enjoy this wonderful poem written by one of our residents 🌷🌼

I am Happy
I am fresh air on skin
I am ice cold drinks
I am music that does not fade away
I am sunshine
I am flowers growing
I am primroses
I am lavender full of life
I am birds whistling in the tree tops
I am the dawn chorus
I am long soaks in a hot bath
I am rhubarb and apple crumble
I am tending to flowers
I am looking after children
I am poetry
I am Happy
