Massive Congratulations and Well done to our FOUNDATIONS GRADUATES šŸŽ‰

Today marked the end of our very first Foundations course 🧔

Four weeks ago these four lovely ladies walked into Eat Train Live gym feeling nervous and unsure.

Today, they finished the course with a whole new level of confidence and excitement to continue their fitness journey.

A message one of them sent into our chat:

I’ve genuinely loved coaching this group and watching their confidence grow and technique improve week on week.

Strength training matters even more as we get age.

Did you know, unless we do something to maintain it, we as adults lose around 3–8% of muscle mass per decade from age 30, and this can increase again after 60. Age related muscle loss or sarcopenia.

The good news - you can reduce, mitigate or even reverse this with strength training and regular activity.

Our strength and muscle mass isn’t just about the gym. It plays a huge role in balance, coordination, and mobility too. Strength training can also help maintain bone density, helping to avoid fractures, metabolic health, as well as how confident and steady we feel in everyday life, avoiding unnecessary falls in the future.

With well-coached resistance training, we can help you preserve muscle, maintain bone density, improve balance and coordination, and support heart health.

There’s also strong evidence showing benefits for cognitive function and memory, alongside the well-documented impact of exercise on improving mood and mental wellbeing.

We recognise that it can be daunting to start or restart training in the gym anytime but especially after 60… and that’s why we created CLASSICS.

CLASSICS is our small group personal training programme for men and women aged 60+.

At ETL, everything is coached step by step, at your pace, and adapted to the individual in front of us. In fact, we expect our CLASSICS members are either completely new to the gym or returning after a long break.

Your fully qualified personal trainer will guide you through every exercise so you feel safe, confident and supported, with training that is appropriate, progressive and effective for you.

Strength training isn’t about turning the clock back.

It’s about staying strong, steady and independent for the years ahead, so you can keep moving well and doing the things you love.

What are the benefits of spots massage and when should you get one?

Above is a snapshot of the benefits of what a sports massage session can do for you.

But you should book in for a massage when:

1. When you’re feeling stiff, tight, have reoccurring pains, aches or niggles (that usually go on for a while/ get ignored šŸ‘€)

2. If you’re someone who struggles with range of movement, mobility, stability and flexibility. And want to build that back to improve your day to day, and/or training.

3. If you’re preparing for or recovering from sporting events and training. Sports massage is tailored to each individual.

4. Maintenance

Sports massage is a great tool for all of the above. It can bring relief, improve how your body feels, and support both training and recovery. But for long term, pairing massage with a program that builds strength, mobility, and functional movement makes the difference.

Feel better and move better. Working through the root of any new or reoccurring issues. With a clear plan ahead.

After my post last week, I got chatting with a client after his session.

He told me that a few years ago he was in a very similar place to the friend I mentioned last week and he’s happy for me to share a bit of his story.

Not lazy.
Not unmotivated.
Doing well at work and enjoying life with family and friends.

But as life got busier, he was starting to struggle to keep up both at work and at home.

He realised that if he wanted to stay present for his family, keep performing at work and actually enjoy life rather than just get through it, something needed to change.

He’d worked with a PT before, but after relocating he’d fallen out of routine. He didn’t want anything extreme and was worried about getting started again… until he found ETL.

The change wasn’t drastic.
No big goal.
No extreme transformation.

It was subtle. And scalable.

He started with one 45-minute PT session per week, focusing on building strength, learning good technique and doing things he’d been told he ā€œcouldn’tā€ do before.

One session per week soon became two as he felt the impact training was having.

More energy, not less.
More focus.
More confidence.

Better able to show up for work and family, while also looking after his own health so he can keep doing that for years to come.

That’s what we do at ETL.

We build solid foundations first, then introduce small habits you can build on over time. Nothing extreme. Nothing overwhelming. Just sensible coaching that fits real life and lasts.

He now trains consistently three times per week, gets outside daily for walks with his family, and is steadily improving his nutrition. Small changes, scaled over time, creating sustainable progress.

It’s been great to hear from so many of you about CLASSICS, our small group personal training programme for people 60+

We’ve had a few questions so thought we’d answer them and tell you why we’ve designed Classics, and want to work with over 60s.

Staying active and strong as we get older is about staying mobile and independent.

Strength training and exercise as we age helps you:
• Stay strong enough for everyday life
• Improve balance, coordination and confidence to reduce fall and injury risk
• Maintain muscle mass and bone density
• And ultimately, keep doing the things you enjoy and moving well for longer

Now for your questions:

šŸ”øI’ve never trained before…

That’s absolutely fine. We expect most of our Classics members to be new or returning after a long break. At ETL, everything is coached, step by step, at your pace and in a way that can be personalised to every individual.

šŸ”øWhat if I can’t keep up?

In Classics, it will be a friendly, relaxed environment, where we focus on quality movement and starting from where you are. No rushing around or getting up and down off the floor every minute; everything is tailored to you and the group as a whole.

šŸ”øAm I too old to start?

No. There’s evidence that we can improve fitness and strength at any age - what you do in your 60s and 70s will shape your 80s and 90s. Message us for a chat about your individual fitness and let’s go from there.

šŸ”øWhat if I don’t know what I’m doing?

That’s why everything we do is coached. We guide you through every exercise so you feel safe, confident and supported, and your programme is safe and effective for you.
