Support is available for vulnerable residents following Storm Goretti.

We understand that prolonged power outages can be especially difficult for people who rely on essential equipment. Many items such as community equipment, electric hoists, stairlifts and pressure-relieving mattresses have manual or backup options, but we want to make sure everyone remains safe and supported.

If you're worried about your equipment, its backup arrangements, or your ability to manage during the outage, please contact us as soon as possible. We can assess your situation and, where needed, consider alternative solutions or replacements to help keep you safe and comfortable.

For social care emergencies involving adults, please call 0300 1234 131. To request help for a child, call 01208 251300.

For out-of-hours emergency equipment repairs, Medequip can be reached on 020 8573 2871.

Supporting vulnerable residents remains a key priority as we respond to the impacts of Storm Goretti.

Council teams are carrying out wellbeing checks, working closely with care homes and care providers, and supporting people who rely on essential services.

We are liaising with utility companies to prioritise households with additional needs, and our social care teams are responding to urgent concerns as they arise.

Welfare hubs and priority services are in place to support people affected by power cuts or loss of water, and partners across health, care and emergency services are working together to make sure help reaches those who need it most.

If you're worried about someone who may be vulnerable, please report your concerns through the appropriate council or emergency service channels so support can be put in place quickly.

For social care emergencies – Safeguarding Adults and Children - call 0300 1231 116

For the police, fire service or medical emergencies, call 999.

For non-emergencies, call the police on 101.

Thank you to our amazing staff who are always amazing, but last night they were even more so

Our teams are still dealing with widespread disruption this morning from Storm Goretti, including blocked roads, unstable structures and fallen power lines.

Travel conditions remain hazardous. If you are able to work from home today, please do so and avoid non-essential journeys.

Parents and carers should check whether their school or education setting is open before setting off.

Please take care, give emergency services and highways teams the space they need to carry out urgent repairs, and only travel if it is absolutely necessary.
