Check out this excellent example of what is now being referred to as “Topographical Wax Formation” in this local man's ear

Early observations suggest that prolonged exposure to the unique microclimate around St Austell, particularly the mineral-rich air drifting from the Eden Project and historic china clay deposits, may influence the natural behaviour of cerumen (ear wax).

In certain individuals, this can apparently lead to wax organising itself into topographical structures resembling Cornish landmarks. In extremely rare cases, formations have even been noted to mimic what some patients insist looks like a tiny St Piran's Flag at the summit.

Researchers (mostly Dave from down the pub) believe this is due to:
• Elevated kaolin particles in the atmosphere
• Repeated exposure to sea air from St Auatell

Symptoms include have known to include
- Mild ear fullness
- A strong urge to say “proper job”
- Sudden cravings for a pasty

We have been here for 9 months now and there has still been no introduced.

Mike: started his career as a an Ambulance care assistant, learning the ropes from age of 19, it wasn't long until he was off to University to undertake paramedic training.

Once a registered paramedic, spent many years working from St Austell Ambulance Station. Eventually becoming a Paramedic Educator.

When Covid 19 started, Mike was approached to specialise and work within GP surgeries, this lead to specialised Masters Degree training to increase knowledge in areas paramedics wouldn't normally assess, such as in depth ear examinations.
Working with GP's and specialists health care professionals to consolidate learning and ensure that any assessment undertaken was safe and accurate.

After 5 years of working within a specialised role Mike wanted a change. ENT was an area that he enjoyed and wanted to continue developing.

Cornwall Clear then opened as not just a regular ear cleaning clinic, but a clinic able to undertake wax removal & in depth clinical ear assessments, with the capability, training and knowledge of a lifetime of learning to fall back on.

Mike lives locally with 3 school aged children and is married to Charlotte, who we will introduce over the next few days.

Take care all, have a great day.

Today is world hearing day, a global day to raise awareness about hearing loss and ear health.

Hearing helps us connect with the world. Let's us enjoy music, talk with family and friends and it also always us to stay safe in our surroundings.

1 in 3 people will develop hearing health issues in their lifetime, many delay care due to access, awareness or waiting times.

Many causes of hearing loss can be prevented.

Keep the volume down when using headphones, wear ear protection in noisy places, take breaks from loud sounds, get your hearing checked regularly and seek health advice if you notice any changes.

Take care all.
