The Counselling and Therapy Cottage

The Counselling and Therapy Cottage I'm Suzie, an online Psychotherapist, CBT Practitioner & counsellor. Please do check out my website: thecounsellingandtherapycottage.com Hi, I'm Suzie.

I specialise in attachment theory, anxiety, OCD, disordered eating, BDD, relationship issues and inner child work. Living in Cornwall means being surrounded by beautiful blue ocean which I love to swim in! I also love walking in nature, boxercise, yoga, drinking good coffee and coastal walks. Being a therapist is my passion and I'm currently doing CPCAB Accredited Level 7 Post-graduate Training (Masters Level) Course in Attachment-focused Psychotherapy. Alongside my caseload of clients, I am kept pretty busy! I like to keep myself grounded in the present moment as much as possible; whether that be connecting my five senses to my surroundings, being grateful, gardening, crafting, exercising. Being in the ocean really keeps me present; its magical! Anyway, thats me! I'd love to know more about you!

It’s often the case in therapy that the presence and co-regulation of your therapist is what can create the most change. Most therapists will specialise in various theories or modalities which is great… but without that therapeutic relationship, those theories don’t always land. Creating a safe, empathic, deeply attuned space with your client is paramount. It can be magical and the main vehicle behind client change and development.

Sometimes we have to sit with the uncertainty of not knowing - not knowing the answers, the future, what other people are thinking or feeling, how something will turn out. BUT we can always hope. We can accept we don’t know, but also give ourselves permission to hope. And that is a beautiful thing

Who else loves being playful, child-like and silly? I know I do! Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in how serious life can be, but we also need to remember that life can be full of light, humour, laughter, fun, banter and innocent silliness. Even laughing at ourselves, the irony of a situation, the hilarity of being human can ease the expectations and pressure we so readily place on ourselves. Giving our inner child space to play and connect with another’s inner child is so magical.

One of the many benefits of therapy is the safe space we provide for the client to really unpack their story; there’s no rush, no judgement, no interruption. The time is all yours. Externalising our world is extremely helpful for getting better clarity and an understanding of our cognitive view and maybe how we interpret ourselves and others.

This really resonated with me. Does it you too? Healing isn’t linear but it’s still movement and growth.
