We do try to get to the services to welcome the new vicars in the area, and last night David went to St Brevita the Parish Church for Lanlivery. The Bishop of Truro, the Right Reverend David Williams, and the Archdeacon of Cornwall, the Venerable Clive Hogger installed and inducted the Reverend Simon Bone as Rector of the Lostwithiel Benefice which includes the parishes of Lostwithiel, St Winnow, St Veep, Boconnoc, Bradoc and Lanlivery. It was a lovely service where Fr Simon, gets taken around the Church, the font, the lectern, the altar, the door, and then rings the bells. Tradition has it that the number of rings on the bell indicates how long Fr Simon will stay. Fr Simon was then put in his stall, a special seat for the vicar. It was lovely to see the Church so full. For David it was very special as he has known Fr Simon for over 20 years. We wish Fr Simon all the best in his new ministry.

Can a funeral cortège drive past somewhere special?

Yes, and many families choose to include a final journey past a place that holds a special meaning.

It could be the family home, a favourite pub, workplace, or even a football ground. These small details can make a service feel more personal and reflective of the life being remembered.

We’ll help plan the route, coordinate the timing, and ensure the cortege runs smoothly, whether it includes one car or several.

If there’s a special stop you’d like to include, just let us know.

As a mark of respect to the deceased it is a privilege, as a Funeral Director, to page the hearse. It is an honour to continue this tradition.

For the last seven years David has organised a Christmas Day Dinner for those who otherwise would be on their own. This is a huge undertaking, taking bookings, organising donations, getting 30Kg of meat, 70kg of Vegetables, 16 Christmas puddings, presents, refreshments. Guests enjoy a visit from Father Christmas who gives out wrapped presents, and then enjoy entertainment from David's Fiancée Rachel. Christmas Eve is spent wrapping presents, setting up Penwithick Community Hall and laying the tables. Christmas Day starts with the meat going in the oven at 7am. This year 95 meals were cooked, and everyone who came along had a wonderful time. David is very grateful to those who donated to the day and all those who volunteered.

For many the New Year brings memories. It is a time we reflect on the past year and look towards the new year and wonder what 2026 will bring for us. Our thoughts go out to all those who have lost loved ones this year and to those who are finding it tough at the moment. #2025 #2026
