We love seeing wildlife up close but not sure the bird who made this in the shelter found the best place! We're keeping a close eye out but hopefully whoever built this nest will find somewhere a little quieter to raise their family!!

The willow dome was in need of a little TLC after the winter so this weeks job was to weave last year's growth back in and add some more willow cuttings to fill in the gaps.
Our sessions involve learning about woodland management and how to use the resources we have. All the new willow cuttings were taken from established trees on site and we're looking forward to the willow dome greening up and becoming an excellent hide out!

There has been some serious rope skills learnt over the last few sessions! All our groups have LOVED learning to build rope ladders, swings, tarp shelters and rope bridges.
A few really simple knots, ropes and some sticks is all it takes. We have been really impressed with the things these guys have built and safe tonsay they have had a lot of fun!

We're looking forward to a term of building structures using things we find in the woods, rope and tarpaulin. Tying knots is such a cool skill and knowing the right knot for the right job can make life a whole lot easier!

Here is E making a very simple mini rope ladder with just a few sticks and a piece of rope. Very simple, very quick and very cool 😎

If you like the idea of learning skills like E then drop us a message and join one of our sessions πŸ˜‰

We work hard to encourage wildlife to our woodland and although we do our best to monitor what we see there is so much that goes one without us knowing!

One our our group members bought himself a wildlife camera trap and asked to set it up in the woods! We cannot wait to see what it picks up over the next week! It is set up in the Old Woods - an area we don't currently use during sessions so it will remain undisturbed and hopefully we can see a little of what lives down there. Watch this space! πŸ‘€

πŸ₯žπŸ₯ž Belated pancake week in the woods this week πŸ₯žπŸ₯ž

Pancake day fell in half term this year but that wouldn't stop us enjoying some freshly made pancakes during our sessions πŸ˜‹

We're looking forward to the days warming up now we're heading into spring and have loved seeing the new signs of spring! 🌱

There’s something truly magical about watching a murmuration of starlings 🌿✨
Often at dusk these little birds move as one β€” twisting, turning and flowing through the sky like living smoke before settling into the trees for the night πŸŒ™
This behaviour is thought to help protect them from predators and keep them warm and it is amazing to watch

Last year some of our groups helped to label oak and hazel saplings with pieces of string which will help to extend the woodland and create another hazel coppice.

Now is the time we can dig those saplings up and create our very own tree nursery until we're ready to plant them in the newest area of soon to be woodland!

Our groups learn about woodland management, how to maintain a woodland in a sustainable and wildlife friendly way as well as giving us the resources we use in our sessions.

DM us if your child would enjoy caring for our woodland and learning practical skills in woodland management

We encourage exploration and play in our Woodland Sessions! No matter how big or small you are, a good game of hide and seek is always fun! πŸ‘€

Our woodland is fully enclosed so our groups have a lot of freedom to play and explore away from the shelter.

This lot are taking it seriously and went on a scouting mission to find some good spots before the brambles grow back

Simple, delicious and the perfect way to warm up on a chilly morning! Jacket potatoes πŸ˜‹

So straight forward...once the fire is good and hot πŸ”₯ just wrapped in tin foil and pop them in the embers. Just what we needed after a cold morning in the woods exploring and looking for signs of spring 🌱πŸ₯Ά

⭐️🌜🌳 πŸ”₯There is something so magical being in the woods after dark with the light of the fire πŸ”₯ 🌳🌜⭐️
This is a special term when the evenings are still dark for our after school Bushcraft Club. The fire is the main event and it's wonderful to see the kids skills and their confidence around the fire growing. What a great skill these kids will have being able to light and maintain a fire safely with no matches as they grow up πŸ˜€πŸ”₯

The Great Potato Bake off Round 2 saw us trying campfire hashbrowns at the suggestion of one of our group members. Honestly they were soooo good πŸ˜‹ and not something we'd done before so that was great!

Our sessions are very child led in this way, kids have a suggestion or idea and we'll do our best to help it happen.

A great thing about our sessions is we will always be evolving and adapting to our groups! I don't think we'll ever get bored in the woods!! 🌳

So why not come along and see whag you can bring to our sessions πŸ€”
