42 years and it is like it was yesterday. Tonight the lights will dim in the village of Mousehole.

On this day we remember the terrible storm 42 years ago that led to the loss of all hands of the coaster, the ‘Union Star’, and the Penlee lifeboat ‘Solomon Browne’.

The crew of the Solomon Browne fought bravely in 50’ waves in the rescue attempt before being overcome. Along with the eight lives from the ‘Union Star’, the eight volunteer crew from Mousehole were all lost.
They were:
Coxswain Trevelyan Richards, 56
Mechanic Stephen Madron, 35
Assistant Mechanic Nigel Brockman, 43
Crewman John Blewett, 43
Charlie Greenhaugh, 46
Barrie Torrie, 33
Kevin Smith, 23
Gary Wallis, 22

Today in Mousehole the lights dim while we remember and honour the brave service of these men.
