THE LOWER IMAGE ILLUSTRATES A POROUS REPAIR.
WHICH MEANS IT IS FULL OF AIR BUBBLES.
THIS IS A WEAK REPAIR AND WILL FRACTURE VERY QUICKLEY.
COMPARED WITH AN AERO BAR AND A SOLID BAR OF CHOCOLATE.

Denture repairs.
Why do dentures break?
They break because their flexural limit has been exceeded.
The factors that that effect this point are numerous.
One significant consideration is the type of material employed in the initial design phase of construction.
Points of which are: Is the loading predominantly incisive or masticatory. If a partial denture upper? is their sufficient palatal coverage to sustain the pressure loading from occlusal force. Many prescribed palates are far too small with fractures resulting.
Acrylic, whilst being the standard material for NHS provision it unfortunately suffers from the unpredictability of sudden fracture failure. The timeline of predictability is effected by immediate provision, lack of opposing support and cleaning protocols.
So designing the denture using the wrong material and failing to adequate cleaning and deplaqueing information seriously effects the longevity.
Ultra Impact acrylic is the product of choice imparting far superior physical properties over std acrylic. Unfortunately Standard NHS acrylic is given a 5 year provision and with bone resorption invariably occuring within this period, this provision can be somewhat affected, thus
reduces the supporting factors of denture acrylic.
Other material such as cobalt chromium and resilient VALPLAST AND ZIRLUX can be recommended but only in certain designs.
