🤍 Your body is incredible in the third trimester🤍

As baby grows, the uterus changes shape and function in amazing ways. What started as a small pear-shaped organ has stretched into a powerful muscular home, rising up under the ribs and adapting to support baby’s growth, movement and positioning for birth.

In the final weeks, the uterus often changes shape as baby settles lower into the pelvis (lightening), and you may notice your bump looks different from week to week — higher, lower, broader or more “pointed.” This can be completely normal as baby turns and engages.

Hormones are busy too ✨
A surge in oestrogen increases blood flow and helps prepare the uterus for labour.
Relaxin softens ligaments and joints (hello pelvic aches).
Progesterone can contribute to tiredness and breathlessness.
Oxytocin receptors increase, preparing the uterus to respond in labour.

And emotionally? Those hormonal shifts can make you feel all the feelings — tearful, energised nesting mode, anxious, excited, nauseous, overwhelmed… sometimes all in one day 💛

Braxton Hicks tightenings may become more noticeable as the uterus “practises” for labour, and many women become much more aware of their body changing as birth approaches.
