If you're concerned about your baby possibly experiencing reflux or showing signs of inadequate milk intake, it's always best to consult with your GP or Health Visitor. They can discuss various medications that may help alleviate reflux symptoms.
Here are some questions to consider:
Is your baby frequently sick during or after feeds?
Does your baby appear fussy, upset, or refuse to drink during feeds?
Do you notice excessive crying or signs of distress after feeds?
Does your baby have difficulty burping or show resistance to burping, often accompanied by back arching?
Does your baby struggle to settle, especially when laid flat?
To help you and your baby, we recommend taking these positive steps:
Provide gentle winding throughout your baby's feed.
Distracting them during burping with reassurance and interaction can help keep them calm.
Try feeding your baby smaller amounts more frequently. Monitoring their daily intake through a feeding diary can be helpful.
If you're bottle-feeding, consider offering your baby a thicker milk. There are various brands available, but seek advice and avoid rapid changes in formula.
Keep your baby upright for 20 minutes after each feed to allow the milk to settle.
Dress your baby in comfortable, non-restrictive clothing, particularly around the tummy area.
As a new parent, it can be incredibly challenging to hear your baby cry, especially when dealing with reflux. Rest assured, as your baby grows and develops, the reflux is likely to diminish, making it easier for both of you.
Remember, reaching out to healthcare professionals for guidance and support is crucial during this time. They can provide personalized advice and address any concerns you may have.
