Launching soon: our *soft set* honey.

And if it looks like a “ta-da” moment… it isn’t.

Soft set is one of those products that only looks effortless at the end. Behind the scenes it’s been:
- trial batches
- timing tweaks
- texture tests
- a few “why is it doing THAT?” moments

But we’re nearly there — and it’s going to be seriously good.

Want to see the behind-the-scenes (including the fails), or just the final reveal?

This is an Asian hornet. They’re currently having a devastating impact on insect life in France, and this isn’t just a beekeeper issue, it affects everyone.

One colony can consume around 15kg of insects in a single season. If you’ve noticed how few insects there seem to be already this year, this is part of the bigger picture.

If you spot one, please report it on the Asian Hornet Watch app.

Swarm collection required and this time it is resting over a few branches in Northenden. We need to get it into a box so gareth clears the stray branches before gently putting the bulk of bees in the box. Once they are in he puts the lid on and waits for the rest of the bees to follow their queen into their new home. We return after dark to collect this beautiful swarm of honeybees.

Our first experience day of 2026 was brilliant. We trialled some new things this year, including our hand extractor for honey tasting. Turns out it works for about 3 minutes before you realize you’re in for the long haul. We ended up hand-scooping honey off the walls instead, which was honestly more fun. The extractor’s now up for sale when we get round to advertising.

But what actually made the day was our new soft set honey. Six jars sold, which genuinely thrilled us. Nothing beats people trying it for real to give feedback - post to announce this to follow.

When we decrystallized our UK multi floral, monofloral and international honey selection for tasting, we had this moment where we realized how mad our collection actually is. We know every single beekeeper who made it. You won’t find that in Tesco.

The day itself was perfect. Weather held, the bees were calm and cooperative, and we spotted loads of queens, passed frames around, watched baby bees emerge, held drones in our hands, and made plenty of funny moments along the way.

We’re adding plant ID photos for when flowers aren’t blooming, and we’ll do a proper explainer on what Manuka actually is, because apparently nobody has a clue.

Ready to book your experience day? June is already sold out so book your slot in July on our website.

This is a very small mating nuc with a queen cell in and a few worker bees to look after her. It is easy and important to keep creating new queens and part of the fun and skill of beekeeping.

Making a frame of wax foundation using a nail gun. This is an everyday occurrence during spring when you are behind on your frame making. 20 mins spare must result in 20 new frames.

Watch Gareth work his magic with a low-hanging swarm. One smooth card, one perfectly timed scoop, and the bees know exactly what they’re looking for in a home. Into the bucket they go, then straight into their new hive. Here’s the clever bit though - they could leg it at any moment, but they won’t. This hive is exactly what they need, so they choose to stay. Fingers crossed the queen made the journey, but if she didn’t, she’ll follow her colony soon enough once they’ve settled in. A quick smoke to mask the pheromones left on the wall, and every returning bee gets guided back to the front of the hive to crawl in properly. Then it’s a waiting game until nightfall when all the flyers and foragers have made it home. Another textbook swarm collection in the books. This is what sustainable beekeeping looks like.
