What I’m reading at the moment -

‘We humans might have evolved too far. The price for being intelligent enough to be the first species to be fully aware of the cosmos might just be a capacity to feel a whole universe’s worth of darkness’
This beautiful quote resonates with 17 year old Gaynor, when I remember thinking almost this exact thought in a period of darkness.

Last week I started a new venture with my former BlueSci colleague well-being practitioner Emily Wood - facilitating a mental health support group for MileShy, based at BlueSci Broomwood on Mondays 5-7 pm. Each week we will focus on a different aspect to support mental health (Yoga of course will be featuring soon). Next week we will be discussing the five ways to wellbeing, which are the five identified factors of a good life, and reflecting on how we may incorporate these more in our own lives.

FREE TASTER CLASS

Saturday 17th January will be the 7th National Iyengar Yoga Day.
To celebrate, teachers across the UK and Ireland will be offering free introductory classes and events. This is a fantastic opportunity for those new to Yoga to give it a try. You can find all events nationally via the QR code below or via this link https://iyengaryoga.org.uk/national-iyengar-yoga-day/

I am delighted to be taking part this year, and will be hosting a free 1 hour taster class in the beautiful ballroom at Stretford Public Hall, next Saturday 1030-1130 hrs.
This class is aimed at beginners or those returning to practice, or if you have been before, feel free to bring a friend!

Come along and discover how the precision and mindful movement of Iyengar Yoga can support your physical and mental health. The use of props to support you in poses makes this an accessible, inclusive and supportive class. All equipment is provided, please just come along wearing something comfortable.

I hope to see you on the mat 🙂

The class is free, but please book your ticket via Eventbrite here

2026 for us started out with huge sadness, as our funny loving friend Misty it seems wasn’t destined to step into this year with us, and left us very unexpectedly just a few hours before the bells rang midnight.
Some of you may remember Misty from lockdown Zoom classes, before I moved my Yoga space upstairs and was able to do dog down in peace again without being attacked from underneath and flipped onto my back to be bombarded with dog kisses 😄
Some of the followers of this page may even remember Misty’s rescue story over 8 years ago, when I came across her collapsing, on my way out from teaching a class one Thursday night. I stopped to help, an act which ended up with us taking her in, a battle to treat her for a potentially life threatening condition called Myasthenia Gravis, and then 8 years of sharing our lives with this great loving, funny, silly grey land seal.
She taught us so much in those years, not least just how loving and misunderstood the bully breeds are. And that some dogs like to actually sleep IN the bed!
Nothing phased Misty (other than occasionally ironing boards and plastic bags), she was always happy, and happiest with those she loved - and she loved absolutely everyone, including the vet!

Classes will be back on from tomorrow, and will be a welcome beginning of distraction.

Rest in peace our sweet girl, how lucky we were 💔

It’s officially soup season (well it’s always soup season for me 😋) . Turks turban squash and leek soup harvested from the allotment. The kale crisps and pomegranate seeds give it such beautiful jewel colours I had to admire it for a while before eating ❤️

I’m not very well up on AI, so I had no idea it could do this - it looks like AI created this picture and got it wrong, as the pose should be done on your back. Definitely don’t try this one at home folks, you’d be likely to do some damage to your poor spine 🙈😱

This yoga posture is a Wall-Supported Legs-Up Pose variation (similar to Viparita Karani or Legs Up the Wall Pose).

🧘‍♀️ How to do :-
1. Sit close to a wall with one hip touching it.
2. Lie down on your back and swing your legs up the wall.
3. Adjust so your hips rest close to the wall and your legs are vertical.
4. Rest your arms relaxed by your sides or under your head.
5. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and relax for 3–5 minutes
