You may have seen the recent ITV programme How to Clean Up for Cash with Josie Gibson, and if you have, we’ve got to be honest, we’ve got a bit of a love-hate relationship with decluttering TV shows like this.
On the one hand, they shine a light on something we care deeply about. That there is help out there if you’re feeling overwhelmed at home. That professional organisers exist. That you don’t have to struggle through it on your own.
And that part, of course, we love.
But every now and then, a programme comes along that gets it so wrong. One that simplifies things too much, focuses on sensationalism, or presents a version of decluttering that feels completely at odds with how we, and the wider industry, actually work.
And this is one of those times.
So, we just want to reassure you that what you saw on Clear Up For Cash is not how we do things at the Clutter Fairy.
For us, decluttering is never about pressure, speed, or making money from your belongings.
It’s about you.
Your home.
Your memories.
Your pace.
Every single decision always belongs to you.
We’re simply there to guide, support, and help you work your things it in a way that feels right, emotionally as well as practically. Because let’s face it, this stuff can be complicated.
It’s not just stuff, it’s stories, identity, and sometimes a whole lot of what ifs.
And that deserves time and empathy.
We're not alone in feeling a bit uncomfortable watching it either. The Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers (APDO) has also shared their concerns, and across the industry there’s been a real sense of 'this isn’t what we stand for.'
