This week we are working on bringing ease and flexibility to the hips, pelvis and lower back. Physically the hips and lower back can become tight from sitting too long or after a long walk or running.
At a deeper level we can store stress and negative emotions in this area leading to tightness.
The runner stretch is a wonderful way to open up the muscles and to bring a wonderful sense of ease.
The first picture is a more gentle version to allow the muscles to relax before going on to a deeper stretch and is beneficial if the deeper stretch is not for you, particularly if you have issues with your hips and lower back.
The second picture is a wonderful deeper stretch. Gently pulling the lower abdominal muscles in under the navel enhances the stretch.
Always use extra support under the knees if you need to.
