👊🏻🧑🏻‍⚕️ 𝙎𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙐𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝 👊🏻🧑🏻‍⚕️

Urology Awareness Month is an annual campaign observed every September to raise awareness and understanding of urological diseases and conditions, including cancers like bladder, kidney, and prostate cancer, as well as non-cancerous conditions such as incontinence, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and kidney stones. The campaign encourages people to learn about symptoms, seek early diagnosis and treatment, and reduces the stigma around these sensitive health issues.

What is Urology Awareness Month?

Purpose:
To educate the public about urological health and the importance of early detection for conditions affecting the urinary system and male reproductive organs.

Timing:
It takes place annually in September.

Conditions Highlighted:
This month focuses on a range of urological conditions:
Cancers:
Bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and pe**le cancer.

Other conditions:
Incontinence (bladder leakage), urinary tract infections (UTIs), erectile dysfunction, and kidney stones.

Why it Matters??

Early Diagnosis:
Early detection is crucial for effective treatment and better survival rates for many urological cancers.

Reduce Stigma:
The month aims to break the silence and embarrassment often associated with urological conditions, encouraging more people to seek medical help.

If you have been experiencing any changes in urination (frequency, urgency, pain, blood, or weak flow), incontinence, kidney pain, infertility, and erectile dysfunction. Pelvic pain, kidney stones, unusual urine odor or appearance, and any lumps or swelling in the testicles or p***s - PLEASE SEE YOUR GP!🧑🏻‍⚕️

❗ GP Surgery Lateness Policy ❗

We understand that sometimes delays may happen, however in order to provide fair and efficient care to all out patients, we have a clear policy regarding lateness.

If you're late/know you may be late for a GP surgery appointment, you should call the practice to inform us of your delay.
Practices have different policies, but generally, arriving more than 5-10 minutes late may lead to a rebooking or a significant wait, as your allocated time slot is often lost.

Please allow adequate time before your appointment time for parking, weather conditions etc.

Please ensure you arrive on time for your appointment.

🔴 Blood Cancer Awareness Month - September 🔴

Blood Cancer Awareness Month in September is a vital period dedicated to shining a light on the impact of blood cancers—leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma among them. It plays a crucial role in driving early diagnosis, funding research, and supporting patients. Whether through education, fundraising, or simply helping to spread the word—you can play a powerful part in this life-changing mission.

Here are the common symptoms of blood cancer:

🔴 General Symptoms
• Persistent fatigue or weakness
• Unexplained weight loss
• Loss of appetite
• Frequent or recurring infections (weakened immune system)
• Fever, night sweats, or chills

🔴 Blood & Bone Marrow Related
• Easy bruising or bleeding (nosebleeds, bleeding gums, heavy periods)
• Pale skin (anemia)
• Bone pain or tenderness

🔴 Lymphatic System Related
• Swollen lymph nodes (especially in the neck, armpit, or groin—painless lumps)
• Swelling in the abdomen (enlarged spleen or liver)

🔴 Other Possible Symptoms
• Shortness of breath
• Persistent cough
• Skin rashes or itchy skin
• Swelling in the legs or ankles

⚠️ Important: These symptoms don’t always mean cancer—they can be caused by many other conditions. But if symptoms are persistent, unexplained, or worsening, it’s important to seek medical evaluation early.

💭💭HAVE YOUR SAY? 💭💭
JOIN OUR VIRTUAL PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

PPG stands for Patient Participation Group, a group of patients who work with their GP practice to improve services and address patient needs. These groups are a requirement for every NHS practice, and they play a vital role in ensuring patient voices are heard and incorporated into the practice's operations.

PURPOSE
PPGs are formed to represent the patient perspective and work collaboratively with the practice to enhance the overall patient experience.

ACTIVITIES
PPGs discuss various aspects of the practice, such as patient feedback, service delivery, and potential improvements.

BENEFITS
By actively participating in a PPG, patients can influence the way services are delivered, ensuring that the practice truly reflects the needs of its patient population.

💉NATIONAL IMMUNISATION AWARENESS MONTH- AUGUST 💉

Children's vaccinations are important because they protect both children and the community from serious, sometimes life-threatening diseases.

1. Prevents dangerous illnesses
2. Boost's the immune system safely
3. Prevents long-term health problems
4. Stops outbreaks
5. Protects vulnerable patients

Childhood Schedule at a GP Practice (England, 2025):
Age range and vaccines given:

8 weeks
6-in-1, Rotavirus, MenB

12 weeks
6-in-1 (2nd dose), Rotavirus (2nd dose), MenB (2nd dose)

16 weeks

18 months

3 years 4 months
DTaP/IPV pre-school booster, MMR (2nd dose if not already given)

Every year from age 2–11
Nasal spray flu vaccine (autumn/winter)
GP practices will provide flu vaccinations between aged 2-3

Speak to your GP surgery if your child:
1. has missed any vaccinations
2. has a vaccination appointment booked – but you've missed it or cannot attend
3. has a vaccination appointment but is ill with a temperature
4. has a bleeding disorder (such as haemophilia) or has had a fit (seizure) in the past without a high temperature – let your GP surgery know this before your child has any vaccination

Your GP surgery will be able to give you advice and book you an appointment.

It's best to have vaccines on time, but you can still catch up on most vaccines if you miss them.

☀️ Sun Protection Awareness ☀️
Why it matters:

Too much sun exposure can cause sunburn, skin aging, eye damage, and increase the risk of skin cancer. UV rays can harm you even on cloudy or cooler days.
Top Protection Tips

1. Use sunscreen daily – SPF 30+ with UVA & UVB protection, reapply every 2 hours.

2. Cover up – Wear lightweight, long-sleeved clothing, a wide-brim hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses.

3. Seek shade – Especially between 11 AM and 3 PM, when UV rays are strongest.

4. Stay hydrated – Heat can dehydrate you faster than you think.

5. Check the UV index – Many weather apps show daily UV risk levels.

6. Protect kids & vulnerable people – Their skin is more sensitive to UV damage.
Remember: Sun damage is cumulative — today’s protection is tomorrow’s healthy skin.
Stay protected during the sunny weather ☀️☀️
