Taking antibiotics when you don’t need them encourages harmful bacteria that live inside you to become resistant. That means that antibiotics may not work when you really need them. This puts you and your family at risk of a more severe or longer illness.

Remember that antibiotics don’t work for many infections, including common respiratory infections like the common cold, flu and Covid19. This week is World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, designed to raise awareness about the risks of antibiotic resistance. Please do take your GP’s advice if they think antibiotics aren’t needed for your illness.

It’s World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week. This is a global initiative to help fight antibiotic resistance.

Without effective antibiotics many routine treatments will become increasingly dangerous. Setting broken bones, basic operations, even chemotherapy and animal health all rely on access to antibiotics that work.

It is important to remember that antibiotics do not treat or prevent viruses, including the one that causes COVID19. To slow resistance we need to cut the unnecessary use of antibiotics.

All the staff at Ordsall Health Surgery are making a pledge at antibioticguardian.com on how they’ll better use antibiotics to prevent them from becoming obsolete.

Please join us in making your pledge!

🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

This October, we’re joining millions around the world in raising awareness for breast cancer.

Today, our staff are wearing Pink💗 to show our support for everyone affected by this disease.

By wearing pink, we stand together with patients, survivors, families, colleagues and loved ones — helping spread awareness and encouraging early detection and reminding how important it is to:
💗 Be breast aware – check yourself regularly and know what’s normal for you
💗Speak to your GP if you notice any changes
💗Attend your breast screening appointments when invited

Early detection saves lives. If you have any concerns, please don’t wait — contact us for advice.
