Perimenopause is one of the three stages of menopause. Itโ€™s when menopause symptoms start but your periods havenโ€™t stopped.

For many women, these symptoms can affect daily life โ€“ from energy and mood to relationships and work.

They can also start earlier for some, which is why recognising the signs and getting support matters.

Menopause will now be part of routine NHS health checks โ€“ offered every 5 years to eligible adults aged 40 to 74 โ€“ for the first time. By including tailored questions about menopause, more women will be able to get the support they need to manage their symptoms.

*INCIDENT UPDATE*

We are aware of the incident currently unfolding in Crumpsall and are actively supporting the multi-agency response led by Greater Manchester Police and other emergency services.

Our priority is to ensure the safety and care of patients and staff across the region, and we are working closely with partners to manage any impact on local hospitals and emergency departments.

We urge the public to only attend Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments if your condition is urgent or life-threatening. This will help us prioritise care for those most in need and ensure emergency teams can respond effectively to this incident. If you have an appointment please attend as planned unless you are contacted.

If you are unsure about which service to use, please contact NHS 111 online or by phone for guidance.

NHS 111 accessibility:
If you need help in British Sign Language (BSL) an NHS 111 SignVideo service is available.
If you have a hearing problem, use text relay. Call 18001 111 using the Relay UK App or a text phone.

๐Ÿงก Meet Gill, 62, from Wigan, who was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer two years ago after her niece noticed how much indigestion medicine she was relying on.

Gill first experienced trouble swallowing and a constant pain between her shoulder blades. Thinking it would pass, she carried on - until her niece urged her to see her GP. That step led to a diagnosis and vital treatment.

Since then, Gill has undergone chemotherapy, radiotherapy, major surgery, and immunotherapy with incredible strength.

Sheโ€™s determined to raise awareness: persistent heartburn is not normal, and early diagnosis saves lives.

Read Gillโ€™s story on our website: https://heartburncanceruk.org/your-stories/gills-story/

If youโ€™re in the Greater Manchester area, pop along to meet the Heartburn Cancer UK team at our Heartburn Roadshow.

From Monday 6 to Friday 17 October 2025, our mobile information unit will be visiting 10 supermarket locations across Greater Manchester, to talk with residents about persistent heartburn, indigestion, or reflux, and why these symptoms should be discussed with a GP.
