Your window of tolerance is the range where you can think, feel and respond without becoming overwhelmed or shut down.

It’s not a personality trait, it’s a nervous system state.

Therapy helps widen that window so life feels more manageable and you're better able to cope with things that coe your way, which inevitably they will!

Mental Health Awareness Week often focuses on symptoms, but the deeper conversation and the work I help support you with is about understanding how your mind and body respond to anxiety, stress, overwhelm, negative feelings and past experiences.

Awareness isn’t necessarily about fixing yourself, but recognising what your system has been dealonig with and giving it room to breathe. From there you can maybe find ways to help yourself using self-help books, online resources or talking things through with someone you trust. Or indeed you may decide to seek help in resolving the issues by seeking a therapist or mental health professional in that area.

No single approach fits every moment, and therapy works best when it adapts to what your system can manage that day and the kind of issues we're dealing with.
Some days the mind needs structure, some days the body needs softening, and some days the past needs gentle processing, while other days you simply need space to be heard without doing anything more.

Working integratively means choosing the approach that matches your nervous system state, your goals and your capacity in that moment.

Hypnotherapy is often misunderstood. People seem to think they'll be out of control or unaware of what's going on or what they might say, but this couldn't be further from the truth.

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention where the edges soften just enough for the mind to access imagination, memory and inner resources more easily, while you remain aware, responsive and fully in control throughout, just like when you're day-dreaming.

Most people describe it as a warm, quiet internal space rather than sleep or zoning out, and it’s a state your mind naturally enters every day without effort.

A hypnotherapist is someone who gently guides you down into this relaxed state where we can access the unconscious mind and make the changes you're seeking.

Mindful isn’t something you achieve… it’s something you practice 🌿

It’s in the small choices:
to slow down instead of rush
to breathe instead of react
to rest without guilt
to notice, feel, and begin again

Mindfulness isn’t about being perfect or calm all the time — it’s about being present with what is, and choosing what matters next.

Most people think EMDR is going to be really intense or overwhelming, but actually, it's usually relatively gentle and steady. When applying it for trauma, we work on grounding skills and stabilisation before moving on and processing the actual trauma itself.

It often feels like focusing on a memory without being consumed by it, noticing thoughts or sensations (kinaesthetics) that shift on their own and emotions that also change.

It’s not about reliving trauma, it’s about helping the brain file what’s been stuck so it stops intruding into the present.

EMDR is very versatile and can be used for all kinds of issues, not just trauma, where there are visuals, emotions and kinaesthetics impacting on us.

Talking to both a loved one and a counsellor can be highly effective together, but understanding the differences in what each type of support offers can help provide clarity 💙

Trauma isn’t defined by what happened, but by how overwhelmed your system felt at the time.

Two people can experience the same event and have completely different internal responses.

EMDR works by helping the brain process what was too much to handle then, so it no longer feels like it’s happening now.
