It mostly enhances musculoskeletal repair when problems are more complex or where arthritis & disc degeneration is present. Chronic tiredness, mood & sleep disturbances, as well as digestive disorders are commonly seen in people in chronic pain, often developing into anxiety issues, clinical depression or IBS. Pharmaceuticals alleviate symptoms, a bit like a sticky plaster, helping short term but as time goes by they can create more problems or an imbalance within other areas of the body. We try to increase patient awareness of other approaches, working with the body to create optimum repair & thus overall health. What Do We Need For A Happy Gut - Pre or Probiotics?

Actually both!

Probiotics are billions of beneficial bacteria that in supplement form have been clinically proven to survive the upper digestive tract to reach the colon, replenishing our friendly gut flora.

These helpful microorganisms break down and digest our food, enhance immunity and lower inflammation but they are easily harmed by antibiotics, bad bacteria ingested when eating on the go (handwashing often goes out the window), and processed foods replacing the diverse variety of nourishing wholefoods needed to feed our gut.

But it's pointless taking probiotics if you aren't going to feed them! That's what prebiotics do. They're a type of fibre that passes through the body undigested and promotes the growth and activity of our friendly gut bacteria. They become abundant when we eat pectins abundant in apples, peaches, pears, carrots, tomatoes and potatoes and your billions will become trillions.

Be Physically Active Today To Feel Brain Sharp Tomorrow!

Did You know the buzz you feel after any exercise can last throughout the next day too? Researchers testing a group of 50-83 year olds after moderate physical activity discovered greater mental sharpness the next day too. The participants also slept better and had improved memory skills.

The good news it can be any activity that raises your heart rate - a brisk walk, dancing (anywhere!) or climbing a few flights of stairs.

It has a positive cognitive effect because it increases blood flow to the brain whilst stimulating neurotransmitters.

Top Tip - How To Protect Your Back When Sneezing
Coughs and sneezes are never fun but when your back is suffering the sudden increase in pressure is akin to a punch to the back and ribs, but from the inside!

Bending your knees and leaning forwards slightly whilst bracing your stomach muscles gives you extra support.

If there's a table or worktop nearby place your hands there to help take the strain, or place hands on your thighs. Your back muscles, lumbar discs and ribs will be safer for it.

If you're in major pain it's always safer to remove the joint restriction before extra problems arise.

Beating Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.)

This is the time of year that moods can dip. Summer is a decreasing memory and the nights are drawing in.
So what can we do?

Spend as much time in natural light. Take a walk at lunch time or before or after work. Green areas lift the mood stimulating endorphins- those happy feel good hormones - so choose woodland walks and parks, or even a tree lined street.

Consider taking the supplement 5-HTP. It's the natural precursor for serotonin production, the chemical in our brain that elevates mood and balances sleep.

Plan ahead with your diary with simple, fun things over the next few months. Arrange to meet friends, go to the cinema or theatre, combine a coastal walk with a pub or cafe.

Tips For Pain Free Gardening
Now the weather’s cooling we can start pottering in (or attacking in my case) the garden. It’s easy to lose track of time and before you know it a whole afternoon has gone by. You try and get up but your body groans!
The key is not to get stuck for too long. Set a timer on your phone for 30 minutes, take a break, stand tall, stretching your arms upwards, lifting from the chest whilst tucking your tail bone in to prevent over-arching your back. Alternate lifting one arm a few inches higher than the other, to feel the stretch in the shoulder ball and socket. Repeat four or five times.
Then walk for a minute to loosen the back muscles, hips, and knees. Grab a glass of water - dehydration adds to muscle fatigue.
Then repeat… Happy Gardening!
