✨ An invitation to hold the tension ✨

Today is Imbolc, the Celtic festival of fire & light and heralds the first glimmers of spring. Yet, February is still officially winter so this is not an invitation to jump right in yet. It’s more a slow unfurl.

It’s an invitation to hold the tension, to continue wintering, but Imbolc is an opportunity to ponder change, something that signifies new beginnings, growth and renewal.

It’s also a full moon, the Snow Moon which symbolises patience, reflection, and quiet preparation.

Can you see the symmetry? Pondering change and quiet reflection. Make time for a little spring cleaning, make space for what’s rising up.

I’m doing this with a long supported meditation this morning. While every part of me is screaming for the sea, I’m resisting, I have a cold and have a day of travel ahead. I need to start slow.

So tonight, light a candle, sit a while and ponder, reflect, what’s in and what’s out. Sit somewhere that lets in the light of the full moon, I hope she shines on you 🌕

Today I’m heading to Gothenburg, tending new shoots of a new adventure. Master’s study camp, I’m so excited to see what will rise up.

What’s showing up for you?

📣 Another New Chapter begins! 📣

I left school at 16, started work and by the time I was 19, I left to have my first baby. Over the next 6 years I had 3 children and knew that once the youngest was at school I really wanted to make a difference. To my life, to their lives and to society.

At 35 I went to university for the first time. I’d been working for the Probation Service for 5 years and was accepted into their Trainee Probation Officer program. As part of my degree I trained in CBT to help support those I worked with make behaviour change. I still use these techniques when working 1:1 with women today.

I gave up my career at 54 having trained as a yoga teacher at 52. I was ready for change.

Today I start a Master’s. I’m writing a book and whilst that’s well underway, I wanted the opportunity to study again and this course seemed like the perfect fit. Creative Practice.

It’s never too late to rewrite the script, to have a second chapter.

I’m still available for massage, menopause support, yoga and retreats. Get in touch if you’d like to join me. Or if you just want a chat about changing lanes midlife, I’d love to talk to you.

Massage in Newtownards

Can’t decide between a Thai Yoga massage or womb massage? Let’s talk. I combine techniques from both so rebozo from womb massage can be used on the floor and deep hip stretches from TYM can be included on the massage bed. Once I know what you need from the masssge, I’ll craft it.

Comment below or DM me for more information. Share with a friend you know needs this in their life 🙏🏼

Knowing when to QUIT!

Today, as we fly back to the UK after a wonderful 5 days together on retreat we are celebrating QUITTING.

4 years ago today Heidi had her last alcoholic drink.

17 years ago today I smoked my last cigarette.

This girls weekend away we’ve been steaming and smoking but that’s from the cold water & sauna, not alcohol & f**s!

I’m currently doing dry January and feeling better than ever. The midlife body & mind is just not cut out for alcohol. In fact the top 5 things that are said to exacerbate menopause symptoms are

❌ Alcohol
❌ Smoking
❌ Spicy Food
❌ Sugar
❌ Stress

Sometimes quitting is the right thing to do. Some of the things that definitely help manage symptoms are

✅ Plenty of good quality sleep
✅ A balanced diet
✅ Exercise
✅ Community
✅ HRT or herbal supplements

So this weekend was a mixture of everything I need for a happy, healthy menopause. Healthy food, opportunity to rest, nature, exercise, community, cold water & sauna.

What have you quit for the better?

✨E M P T Y N E S T ✨

I’ve been seeing lots of posts from midlife women about empty nests lately and the feeling of sadness & loss that comes with it.

We raise our children to be strong & independent but when the time comes to release them into the wild, all our senses tell us it’s wrong.

But here’s the thing. They come back. My three girls formed a tag team for a while and ensured one of them was always in the house, they went, they came back. But then, and for many years now, they all set up their own independent lives, all home owners and career women.

But now our time together is so rewarding. Getting to know their adult self, their likes & dislikes, their hopes and dreams. Yes, in today’s global society they might move to the other side of the world like my middle daughter did, but then you find ways to make it work like a girls trip to Bali to meet up.

Now I enjoy times together, times with just one, following shared passions. Last night I went to the cinema with Jade and Romy and in two days I’m heading to Sweden with Heidi on retreat.

So my friends, I know it’s difficult, letting your wee ones go, but let them. They will come back with tales of all they’ve done, new skills, new friends, new passions.

Instead of empty nest, try the term ‘open door’ on for size. How does that feel? Easier?

Oh, and the best bit, now it’s your turn to step out of the every day. Go follow your passion! It’s your time now!

Decembers swims are in the books. I clocked up 2770 chilly metres ranging from 9 to 2 degrees

My splash in December was the Helen’s Bay 29th Annual Santa Swim. So many people turned out to swim & support with all money raised going to & two great causes 🙌🏼

I’ve had some wonderful conversations and swum in some stunning places. It’s not just the cold water I crave to ease my menopause symptoms, it’s being in nature, I mean, look at the last photo, how stunning is that?!?

I’m off on an adventure next week for my January Splash, it involves a flight or two and is set to be the coldest yet. Can you guess where?

I’m writing the book as I go, the first four chapters are shaping up nicely if I do say so myself. If you have a favourite swim spot to share or a story to tell, I’d love to swim with you. Do get in touch 🧜‍♀️🙏🏼

Yoga, tools for menopause

We often start the year by trying to add in all the things we think we should and stopping all the things we think we shouldn’t.

Why not start the year by thinking about what you really need.

What do you need more of this year?

✨ A little more movement
✨ A little more breath
✨ A little more strength
✨ A little more sleep
✨ A little more mindfulness
✨ A little more community
✨ A lot more tools for longevity

When we adopt the mindset ‘New Year, New Me’ we’re saying that there’s something wrong with the current me. Ok new year is a good time to reflect, to asses what has worked well and to set some new goals. But often all we really need is a little reframe and refocus.

Each week our Tuesday night class focuses on a symptom or tool to future proof your life. In fact all of that up there ☝🏼

We meet on zoom, 18:30~19:25 with time to chat before we move. If you’d l like to give it a try during January your first class is free so what have you got to lose?

Comment zoom and I’ll send you the link to join us on Tuesday 6th January

Happy New Year

How to navigate the noise

It’s around this time of year we start to see an outpouring of posts celebrating the outgoing year. If you’re one of the many people who can’t wait to wave goodbye to 2025, these posts can often lead to feelings of failure.

My year has been mixed, terrific times & tragedy, wins & losses, bright days and dark. It’s very rare to spend 365 days rolling in clover, of even just being ok.

So please don’t compare your year to anyone else’s.

If you’ve had a year that has felt more down than up, here’s a way to help you navigate towards 2026 with optimism.

Acknowledge all the feels. The good, the bad, the ugly. Take a while to reflect on what has been. Write this down in a way that makes sense to you, I like to use headings and lists. With a little reflection it might be that some of what we’ve experienced can be moved to another list. Maybe you’ll add an ‘ok’ heading.

When you’re ready, take on board what wasn’t good, try as much as you can to rationalise the feelings connected to these times. If it’s something in your control forgive yourself, you did the best you could.

Now celebrate the good things, be your own cheerleader. Acknowledge your strengths. These are the tools you can take with you into 2026.

I’m Louise and I help busy midlife women find every day solutions to manage life. Join me on retreat or my 1:1 menopause mentoring programme via zoom.

Wishing you a Happy & Healthy New Year x

2025 has seen a few endings

I taught yoga for since it began in the early days of Covid. I joined in 2022 and managed their Menopause Friendly Accreditation programme. Two big menopause organisations that I’ve been proud to represent.

But, I moved to Northern Ireland to be closer to my grandsons and to start hosting retreats at home. Retreats to support the 4 in 10 women who have thought about giving up their career due to menopause. A meno break, a space to breathe, a place to find new ways to navigate menopause & midlife.

So as 2025 comes to an end I knew I needed to make some changes. I needed to make some space to really focus on my own offerings. Sometimes we have to step out of the comfortable to make space for growth.

All the time life is ticking along, nothing changes. But, I know I needed more.

So, as we nudge towards 2026 I’ve created space to grow.

Retreats at home, retreats in England, a first retreat in Portugal, a Masters, a challenge and a book!

Now I am not one for New Year’s resolutions, they are rarely sustainable but I’m ready for change, I hope you’ll come along with me, better still, come retreat or swim with me

How do you feel about change?

Swimming into 60, one woman’s journey through menopause & beyond

It’s the working title of my book. What do you think?

I’m swimming 60 kilometres from October when I turned 59 to my 60th.

Once a month I’m making a splash, participating in an event that’ll challenge me or bring me joy (and those around me) so far I joined in a Pumpkin Head Swim for Halloween in October and swam with Orca in the Arctic Circle in November.

Then, I’ll be swimming with other women for whom wild swimming and cold water has been part of their midlife journey. Be that a passion, their job, or their own symptom management.

Do you have a swim story? I’m so looking forward to meeting all the women I’ve connected with, but I want to share many stories and so there is always room for one more

This morning the thermometer indicated 10, it felt colder, but the conditions were perfect and as the sun rose above the colourful houses and cast a rosy glow on the water, it just felt good to be alive. So viscerally alive.

If you know, you know. Do you?

If you want to find out more about swimming or swim with me here, you could always join me on retreat at my home in Northern Ireland. Comment 🧜‍♀️ and I’ll send you some information
