Alert Training Get paid while you learn…

Apprenticeships are all about learning on the job.

Alert Training UK’s mission is to empower learners with occupational skills that promote personal and professional development and support safety and wellbeing. As an Apprentice you will be paid a salary by your employer as well as given on the job training that will allow you to gain the relevant NVQ. Valuable and practical experience and training

It’s all about on-the-job training so you gain

valuable and practical experience, as well as specific work-related skills. You will spend time studying independently and with a trainer/assessor for Functional Skills qualifications, an NVQ, Employment Rights and Responsibilities and a Technical Certificate. You will gain:
•Practical and real experience of the job you want to do
•Relevant knowledge and skills
•High quality training
•An NVQ Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs grade A-C) or NVQ level 3 (equivalent to 2 A levels or 1 vocational A level)
•Functional Skills qualifications
•A Technical Certificate

An Apprenticeship will help you show potential employers that you have skills, qualifications, dedication and commitment. It can give you a head start in the job market as well as increase your chances of earning a good salary in the future and moving up the career ladder.
•The NVQ will enable you to demonstrate your workplace abilities and prove that you can do specific job-related tasks.
•The technical certificate will give you extra knowledge and understanding about the job you are training for.
•The Functional Skills qualifications cover more general work-related skills such as English and Maths. These are skills which employers are increasingly looking for and will put you ahead of the competition in the job market. Develop your skills and prospects

If you want to develop your prospects and build a career then an Apprenticeship could be the right choice for you. Apprenticeships take time and dedication but as each one is different the exact amount of time needed to complete can vary. It all depends on how quickly you learn and progress as well as what your employer needs and expects you to achieve. You will need to be determined to succeed in the world of work and willing to commit yourself for the time it may take to complete your Apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are becoming more and more popular and the demand for places is high. But when you look at the achievements and the success of many former apprentices it’s not hard to see why!

Damp and dirty sponges can be a breeding ground for bacteria.

Sponges, as well as tea towels, dish cloths, and oven gloves should be washed or changed regularly. Make sure you dry them out completely before being using again.

Calling all pie makers, bakers, and street food vendors!

Food allergen labelling rules are changing on 1 October 2021.

This applies to any food business that produces prepacked for direct sale food, including food stalls, burger vans, farmers’ markets and street food vendors.

PPDS food is packaged at the same place it is offered or sold to consumers. It is a single item, consisting of the food and its packaging, that is ready for presentation to the consumer before it is ordered or selected.

The labelling changes also affect mobile sellers selling food where the same business packages food at a different location. So, if your business sells food from, for example, a market stall or van, and you package this food yourself at a different location, this is PPDS food.

See our guide for more information to help mobile sellers and street food vendors adapt to the changes: https://www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/prepacked-for-direct-sale-ppds-allergen-labelling-changes-for-mobile-sellers-and-street-food-vendors

❓ Are raw kidney beans poisonous?

🅰️ Raw beans, especially red kidney beans, can be risky. This is because they naturally contain a lectin that can produce toxic effects, such as diarrhoea and vomiting. It's important you soak them overnight and then cook properly before you eat them. Cooking times can vary, so follow the instructions on the packaging.

You should also not slow cook raw red kidney beans as it does not destroy the toxin and may even increase its toxicity.

This advice is for raw or dried kidney beans. Canned beans purchased in the supermarket are safe to consume as they have been pre-soaked and boiled to kill any toxins present.

❓ How long after cooking rice can you safely eat it?

🅰️ Rice may be eaten up to 24 hours after cooking, if it is cooled down quickly, put in the fridge and eaten cold.

You can get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. It's not the reheating that causes the problem, but the way the rice has been stored before it's reheated. If you reheat any rice always check the dish is steaming hot all the way through.

Uncooked rice can contain spores of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. These spores can survive being cooked. The longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that the bacteria develops.
