ITC delivered online 6-7 October by Rachel Pardoe and Helen Gibson. A group of curious and interested practitioners, including staff in perinatal and parent-infant services, and staff working with children and families with special needs. We had an enjoyable (if challenging!) learning experience, and lots of reflective space.

A very full and rich day of sharing and learning took place today with 13 VIG Supervisors attending the one day course ‘Scoring Advanced Skills Using the SDS’. Supervisors and supervisors in training agreed that the day had increased their confidence in supporting their own trainees towards Advanced Practitioner status. A real bonus was a chance to connect with each other and to have space to reflect on VIG practice. The day was led by Hilary Kennedy and Helen Gibson and supported by Michele Corley.

For Baby’s Sake is a charity working to break the pattern of abuse by working with mums and dads from antenatal up to two years to give their children the best chance in life.

Helen Gibson and Hilary Kennedy led two half-days training where we explored with 27 practitioners and managers from the "For Baby's Sake" teams from London, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Blackpool and connect (a new online service) ideas to weave VIG throughout this innovative programme for parents experiencing domestic violence within the first 1001 critical days of their child's life. Monika Celebi provided some expert input on VIG in pregnancy and Helen Gibson added the possibilities for using VIG to building stronger co-parenting.
A big thank you to Judith Rees for commissioning this training which is providing a springboard for immersing VIG in FBS over the next year

An on-line midpoint review day was held yesterday for all of the trainees on the CYP-IAPT 0-5’s course. The day was facilitated by Helen Gibson and Ruth Clayton and the 1-1’s led by Maddie Marczak and Martin Carey. Helen and Ruth were so impressed with the skill demonstrated and in particular the skill of delivering VIG online. These trainees begun their training just prior to lockdown and as a result all their VIG experience has been on-line working. However, they have overcome all the obstacles this involves and discovered creative and effective ways to ensure this a meaningful experience for their families. Well done everyone!
Also a huge congratulations to all the supervisors involved on this training course who have supported and been part of the trainees skill development.

Shirley Shailer, Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Clinical Lead and Trainee VIG supervisor is leading a team of Health Visitors who will train in VIG across Dorset. Helen Gibson delivered the Introductory training this week for 7 Dorset Health Visitors. Thanks to Shirley who has promoted VIG passionately over the past few years and demonstrated the impact VIG has on families. Shirley has secured protected space for the team during their working week to ensure they have the time to commit to this important intervention and is particularly grateful for the support she has received from management of the services involved. The participants left the training days with excitement and enthusiasm to begin to deliver VIG to the families that they work with.
