18/03/2026

We know that some of our patients may have seen the news regarding a recent meningitis outbreak in Kent and might be feeling understandably concerned. We want to reassure our community that while this is a serious situation, meningococcal disease remains rare, and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is actively managing it.

Currently, there is no NHS directive for the general population to take action. You do not need to contact the surgery reception for preventative antibiotics or extra vaccinations.

Here is the latest guidance to help put your mind at ease:

๐Ÿฉบ Preventative antibiotics are only being offered to close contacts of confirmed cases or individuals who attended specific venues in Kent. If you are affected, public health teams will contact you directly.

๐Ÿ’‰ There is no change to the national vaccination programme. Routine NHS vaccinations remain your primary protection. Most secondary school-aged children and young adults will already have protection through the MenACWY vaccine, and MenB is part of the regular infant immunisation programme.

While there is no need to worry, it is always helpful to be aware of the symptoms of meningitis. They can develop suddenly and may not all appear at once. Please seek urgent medical help if you or a loved one experience any of the following:

๐ŸŒก๏ธ High temperature (fever)
๐Ÿค• Severe headache
๐Ÿงฃ Stiff neck
๐Ÿคข Vomiting
๐Ÿ˜ต Drowsiness or confusion
โ„๏ธ Cold hands or feet
๐Ÿฆด Muscle or joint pain
๐Ÿ’ก Sensitivity to bright lights
๐Ÿ” A rash that does not fade when pressed (the glass test)

Please always trust your instincts and do not wait for all symptoms to appear.

If you are worried and suspect meningitis or sepsis, please call 999 or attend A&E immediately. If symptoms are developing and you need urgent advice, please contact NHS 111 or call the surgery.

Your health and peace of mind are our top priority. Please share this information to help reassure our wider community!

Recognising the Carer in You ๐Ÿ’š

Do you look after or support someone who could not manage without you? ๐Ÿค Many people do not realise that providing this help means they are an unpaid carer. Whether you are assisting a loved one with their physical health, mental wellbeing, or a disability, your dedication is truly valued.

It is easy to overlook your own needs when you are focused on someone else, but staying healthy and finding time for yourself is vital for your own resilience. Carers Together Wiltshire is a partnership of local organisations, including Age UK Wiltshire and Community First, dedicated to helping you find a healthy balance.

They offer a wide range of support, including:
๐Ÿ‘‚ A friendly listening ear and practical advice
๐Ÿ“‡ Carer ID cards and help with carer assessments
๐Ÿ’ฌ Access to counselling, coaching, and peer-support groups

You do not have to manage everything alone. Reach out today to see how they can support you.

Is it time for your annual health review? ๐Ÿฉบโœจ

If you live with a long-term condition, your annual review is a vital check-in to ensure you are staying well and receiving the best possible care. It is a great opportunity to discuss your health, review your medications, and ask any questions you might have about your wellbeing.

If you have not yet booked your long-term condition review for this year, please contact our reception team to arrange your appointment.

For those patients who are normally asked to provide blood pressure readings as part of their review, please remember to:
๐Ÿ“‰ Complete 5 days of readings
๐ŸŒ… Take 2 readings in the morning and 2 in the evening (2x AM, 2x PM)
๐Ÿ“ Bring these completed readings with you to your appointment

Having these readings ready helps our clinical team provide you with the most accurate assessment during your visit. We look forward to seeing you soon! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฅ

Find your voice and breathe easier with Wilton Voices! ๐ŸŽถโœจ

Gathering together to sing is a wonderful way to support your overall wellbeing. For those of our patients managing long-term conditions, singing can offer significant health benefits:

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Respiratory health: Singing helps improve lung function, strengthens the muscles used for breathing, and encourages better breath control.
๐Ÿง  Mental wellbeing: It is a proven way to reduce stress, boost your mood, and connect with others in a friendly, local environment.

Wilton Voices meets regularly at WMSET Hall on West Street in Wilton. Their next featured class for 2026 is on Thursday 12 March from 2.00 pm to 3.15 pm. It costs just ยฃ5.00 per session, which even includes tea and biscuits! โ˜•๐Ÿช

You do not need to be an expert singer to joinโ€”everyone is welcome to come and sing along to an eclectic mix of songs from across the decades.
