1. Bracket off. There are a few reasons brackets will come away from the teeth. Eating hard, sticky or crunchy food will break the brace. Using your teeth for things they’re not meant for, like opening bottles or chewing pens, will break the brace. If you do notice that a bracket is missing or loose, and it is more than a week until your next appointment, give us a call to get booked in for an emergency appointment. If the bracket isn’t attached to your tooth, your tooth not moving! 🪥
2.Wire out. This usually happens in the early stages of treatment as the wire is very thin and bounces when you eat and brush. Sometimes you may be able to pop the wire back in yourself, but if not don’t panic as you can always cover the area with wax to prevent irritation. You can give us a call to sort it out if it is causing you discomfort. 🦷
3.Long wire. This happens when spaces are closing (whoop🥳) but it can get a bit uncomfortable, so give us a call or let us know at your next appointment and we can trim the wire down.🪥
4.Colour band off. Sometimes coloured bands will pop off of their own accord but sticky food can sometimes pull them off. If you notice one of your coloured bands is missing and it is a while until your next appointment give us a call to get it sorted, as the wire isn’t attached to that tooth and could mean the tooth isn’t moving.🦷
5. Metal tie (not a colour missing). Sometimes we use metal ties to tie specific teeth in nice and snug, but it can be confused with a missing colour. Most of the time the clinician will make you aware that it’s there, but if you’re unsure you can always check with us or mention it at your next appointment.🪥
6.Metal tie tail causing issues. The metal ties have a little tail that we tuck out of the way, but when you are brushing or eating these can become dislodged and poke out. If you feel confident to do so you can use your finger nail or tepe brush to move it out the way. If not let us know and it’s a quick fix.🦷
