Welcome AJ!

2025 is my twentieth year as a qualified counsellor – so I’m marking this by opening a brand new Facebook Business page! Welcome to my (fairly small-scale) centre of operations – this is me at my little desk, where I meet a good number of my counselling clients via Zoom video calls. I also use consulting rooms in Baildon, Bingley or Saltaire, in West Yorkshire.

Counselling (or therapy) comes in all shapes and sizes, but ultimately a therapist is someone who’s trained to listen, someone who’s there to help you feel safe and get what you’re going through. Perhaps you’re tired of people not understanding you, or telling you what’s wrong with you, or trying to fix you, or providing you with solutions that don’t connect with your actual experience… and you’d just like someone to be interested in your story, first of all: someone to listen.

So if you are curious about therapy… or if you simply want to find out more, but aren’t sure about committing to sessions just yet… then give me a yell. Happy to help.

Are you experiencing grief?

It’s Grief Awareness Week and grief is something many of us have experienced and can understand.

Grief is commonly associated with the death of a loved one one, be it a friend, family member or pet and feelings of loss following a bereavement are natural emotional response. However sometimes the emotions may feel overwhelming and continue into the longer term impacting other aspects of your life such as your job and relationships.

Also grief may not be the death of a person but can be the ending of a way of life. You may be relocating or changing jobs and be excited about the prospect but it may also come with feelings of sadness.

Are you experiencing grief but feel like the sadness has been impacting your life too deeply for too long? Are you starting to recognise signs of depression? If the answer is yes, then it may be time to seek some support.

🍁🍂 Autumn walks 🍂🍁

Now the clocks have changed and the leaves all falling were well into autumn despite the unusually mild temperatures.

It makes for a beautiful morning walk to soak up the fresh air, stretch those muscles and release some dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical that wgen released in the brain improves mood, increases energy and boosts brain power. Consequently it is so important for our mental health

Therefore the benefits of an autumn stroll cannot be played down. Try to push yourself and get motivated by taking steps to improving your mental health this November.

Today is World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day takes place every year on 10 October. It’s a reminder of the importance of good mental health and the need to prioritise and invest in good mental health.

This year’s theme is ‘access to services - mental health in catastrophes and emergencies’. The theme highlights the importance of people being able to protect their mental health in times of global instability.

Welcome Marta!

Marta is the latest therapist to join our team and brings a unique range of skills and experience to the Victoria Therapy Centre.

Marta is a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist who offers sessions in both Polish and English. She is registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and has a background working with a range of adult clients struggling with problems including domestic abuse, financial worries and relationship issues.

Marta also provides psychological therapy services to Employee Assistance Programmes and so has experience of working with short term and long term clients.

🛝 Another school holiday Tuesday, another park 🛝

Are you starting to wish the kids were back at school? Well you’re not the only one! 😂

It’s now passed the halfway point of the summer and many people, both children and parents, are starting to long for September.

A lack of routine and trying to juggle work commitments alongside childcare starts to take its toll by mid August. The wholesome activities that seemed fun back in July are now failing to keep the kids entertained and lack of financial resources can hugely limit alternative options.

We all know the importance of getting out of the house, meeting people, getting creative and being outdoors but it’s so easy to fall back on screens and this may have started to have an impact on your own and your children’s mental health.

But good news, there’s not long to go now and there are lots of free fun activities for families still going on in and around Bradford. For example have a look at:
